I guessed. Input...efficiency...
Q-switch is installed...has to be around a MW. Output maybe a Joule.
WE do measure in Joule, but most viewers dont know what a Joule is ;-)

So... you guessed at the output. How did you guess at pulse width? I hope you at least measured that, so that you wouldn't be basing your "megawatt" on two guesses?

Looks about the right size to be an SSY-1 cavity. What's your input to the lamp?

Slightly bigger lamp...NEW lamp ^^
But the original lamp can handle 100J as well. After each shot, I give it a break for 1 or 2 minutes...dont wanna hurt the q-switch.

Chargin with a 12->360VDC converter @ 40W (60W max)

So, you're not using the original flashlamp. You're applying 360V to it for an ouptut of "80-100J." What's the capacitance of the capacitor in your PFN? What's the actual light output of the lamp, or do you know that?

Most importantly, how do you know your pulse width?

Theres a formula for flashlamps. Gives you the resistance.
Some guy on SAMs Laser FAQ has made serious experiments with all kind of different input leverls. Voltage, Joules.

BTW: 80-100J is the INPUT...at 360V...

So, in order to have megawatt peaks, 1J of output needs to occur within a 1uS timeframe. That is an extremely optimistic duration, especially at only 360V.

How do you know this is actually occurring?

That's what I've been reading.

First, it states that the optimum pulse for this rod is 100us. You claim to be pumping it with a pulse width between 1/500 and 1/1,000 of this.

Second, I noticed this table, where it seems you rounded 360V up to 400V to get 1.5% efficiency? Strange, nothing else in the table lines up with anything you mentioned...

I have no idea what your intention is man. I already admitted, that its a theoretical value. And to be honest, noone cares ;-) its just for relation.

Utube-folks know blurays...and they know, they have 150-300mW...they wanna know how many output the gun has...its just for having a relation! For the non-laser-geeks.
