I bought 4 Green Lasers and 1 Violet laser off AliExpress as they were cheap as hell. Why not right?

  • Got 1 Green, works great. Probably 20-50mw.
  • Today my violet arrived. WTF is this thing!!!?
  • Doesn't even look like this has a mw, $1 lasers are 100X more powerful than this.

Paid $10 for this! I won my dispute and got my refund.(Seller relisted and price is now $16.50.)
But damn, a host like that with a diode that low powered... Seriously.

More images. "1000W" - Album on Imgur

How do you know it's so low powered? Did you measure it? By the pictures it dosen't look too low powered, remember that 405nm is dim

But freakin' AliExpress :D :D :D

Ultron, look at member The....LED....Museam 's thread from 2-15-16 actually 2 days ago he has the same one that he metered at in the 90mw. Like hap said that doesn't look all that bad.......Are you reffering to the dot not being to bright as i'm sure you know even at 500mw 405nm does not put out a very visible beam but LED got his to light red matches

I also think it doesn't look so bad, this is my 405nm spot from 10 inches away that meters at 63mW:

(Quick photo taken with my phone, doesn't do well with 405nm color at all)

Even at 63mW these are pretty dim, I can only see a faint beam without fog in complete darkness, and even then the beam is barely there.

I don't have a LPM to measure it but I had a cheaper 405 that was wayyyy brighter than this. And the divergence wasn't that bad either. Beyond 5 inches there is no dot. And if it was anything above 50mw it would at least burn something? Had it focused on a match for 2-3 mins, in a pitch dark room. Nothing. Guess mine is broken or something.

I thought those hosts were focusable?

I'm not sure about the ambient lighting conditions, but that dot on the desk looks like it's a couple of miliwats at least. I'm not sure what power it was advertised as, but i'm quite sure it is outputting far more than the 20 microwatts you claim.

Exactly, they are but that makes it worse since it makes the beam even wider. Never really gets to a fixed dot. Unless like like half an inch away from something. Guessing they messed up the potentiometer.

I know, I was just being sarcastic. Like I said I had cheaper and smaller host that had 405nm and the dot was visible from far at night. All the way across the street, etc. But this one is just much weaker with a horrible divergence.

With that company it is always a gamble and you did not do well this time. The host is attractive though.
You got your money back so you made out okay in the end.

Look mate first of all, chinese lasers are always exaggerated in power. What you got is what everyone else gets. That is a fine laser in my opinion and is operating the way it should. I buy from aliexpress all the time and it's a good website for companies to sell their products. 405nm is not bright at all so that laser you have could be potentially bad if you continue to aim it down the street. Please don't do this anymore as you can hurt someone.
If you post your location you can find someone that can meter it's output power for you.

I already compared it to my cheaper and its probably bad. 405nm might not be bright but my cheaper one was much brigher. So, I did get a random broken low powered laser. I've been into lasers since I was very young. I know all about safety issues. My street is a private and all round my house which only my family and I use. No one around.

Cheaper of what wavelength ? 405nm is very dim. If you compared it to any other wavelenth it will look dim in camparison.
I had a 90mW eBay pen a wile back and it paled in comparison to my 5mW 532nm.

405nm itself I believe, I mean it was purple? Yes, it is very dim in comparison but this particular one from AliExpress is even dimmer. I messed with the potentiometer and it got brighter on turns and sometimes dimmer. Can't really get it to go into a dot further than 2-3 inches. Guessing that's whats broken in the first place. I'm just gonna buy a 3.7V spring 50mw green and replace it.
