I was googling for 604nm (orange is my favorite color) to see what known sources there were outside of VERY rare HeNe. I found this here There's not much, and I haven't read much of the references or citing articles, but the abstract reads:
"Lasing on several transitions of the B2J→X2J band of zinc‐iodide (ZnI) with wavelengths ranging from 600 to 604 nm has been demonstrated. Pumped by the dissociative excitation of ZnI2 (using an ArF excimer laser), this laser exhibits many of the optical and chemical properties of the HgBr2 blue‐green dissociation laser."
Any ideas on this? I haven't heard of this until now.
