Hello LPF,
I discovered gas lasers through this forum, specifically bloompyle. I am facinated with their multiline behaviors and i think i would like to purchase a good multiline HeNe. I'm tight on cash so nothing fancy ($100ish, more if i need to). I would love to buy from a USA member or if there is something on the interwebs, im ok with that to. I'm ok with any wavelengths (especially aproaching yellow). it appears argons are way out of my budget but if it is possible to get one cheap i'd be VERY interested. Thanks for replies.

Multiline HeNe tubes are rare. You would also need to find the appropriate power suplly if you did manage to find a healthy one. Either way it will be way outside of your price range.

$100 will get you a tube. Luck will get you more than one line.

My three Multilines all come with a story.

The first, the REO LTOR-01500DE, cost me $500. This was before it was a known multiline. At the time, it did its single line 611.8nm, and I was happy with that. Wasn't until later that the mystery unfolded.

My second was the PMS/REO particle measurement system. This was on eBay for $125 shipped, as a regular old HeNe laser. It went straight to Sam for testing, and after 14+ days of nonstop running, we got it healed to 1.2mW, and 7 lines.

The dual line 4.75mW 594/604 was $500 again. This time, from Sam, and we knew it was multiline. So it cost a price.

Multilines are my hobby, they are not common.

Multiline lasers are not sold as such. Only exception being the REO tunables. They're $5500 new from REO. They are not made to be multiline, it's one of those things that just happens.

Ok i understand that multiline happens by luck. I am still interested in getting an HeNe even if it isn't multiline. are there any options for $300?

Oh of course. There are plenty of 632.8nm tubes on ebay for a third that price. Even some 543nm.

Have you considered multi-line argon? ML HeNes are nearly impossible to find.

Ok, i have done some more research (Read 33.33% of Sam's FAQ on HeNe's) and i'm interested in the tube you speak of speedy. But I don't know where to start with the power supply.

The link I linked is one on ebay. Should be able to fire the tube I have. Bloom would be ablw to tell you more about the compatability with it.
