I have a USHIO laser. Can someone help me out and tell me it's power. Here are the markings:

Make: Ushio
Model: UNL-310PM
Prod. No.: 860016

He-Ne Laser
Class IIIA

Laser Body Length: 280mm
Output: Red Ligth

Power Supply:

Make: Ushio
Model: NPS-YY-DM
Prod. No.: 760032

It draws just under one amp at 12 volts.

Any input greatly appreciated,

Thanks,

Joe

The "class 3a" should give you a pretty good hint that it's under 5mw.

The mantra here appears to be (if you don't know it google it)

Thanks for the input ! 5mw ... nothing hectic.

Done alot of searching but can't find any reference on the web to the laser, so taught someone on the forum may have come across it before.

Need a pic, Ushio probably rebranded some one else's laser head. If we have a pic we could perhaps be more helpful.

Thanks Steve, here are a few pictures ...

Also just noticed a potentiometer on the side of the power supply, what's this for adjusting ?

The plan is to attach a line generating lens - any advice, do's/don't and suggestions welcome.

Making a 3D Line Scanner.

That looks like a NEC, made in Japan. The potentiometer is about a 10% trim of the tube current.

Odds are from the size its about a 3 mW tube, give or take 1 mW.

This one is easy, hook up the psu to the proper power and go.

Based on past experience its a 12 or 24 VDC supply. No easy way to tell which. Give it 20-30 seconds on 12V, long enough for the sometimes internal 30 second legal start delay to time in. See if it lights or tries to light, not just weakly flash. If that does not do it, switch to 24V. Make sure you DO NOT run the psu without the tube attached. Have a small white card in front of laser so you can see the flashes/plasma glow/beam.
