Bummer! I thought most drivers have reverse polarity? But, I suppose that is irrelevant if one were to solder the LD in wrong (i did it some years ago with my original 150mw green o like module)... what I ment in previous post wasn't meaning electrical polarity, but light output polarity... The position of the diode to dpss xtal.. if its off enough, no green, turn it a bit, and on comes the green! lol

AFAIK There are no drivers that will run a laser diode or DPSS when you do not use the pin out. It may not get killed but for sure will not lase.
... not sure what you mean by 'light output polarity..."

It seemed to be polarity that killed my laser diode if I remember correctly, but that was some time ago..

as for the dpss xtal, Idk if its size (3x3x2.7mm and .5mm for Yvo4) or what , but if its "off" it won't make green.. ya odd

I found out for sure that the hene in question is a 1968 university lab. lasertron... I Contacted Bob Hess, and sure enough, he has one identical (i think) on his laser musem sight..And I completly forgot that i took it out of its round tube housing... I ended up selling it to him so he could add to his collection...I have 4 kids, and I know my odds if I kept it around here! ... and there would be some :

Yeah. With kids, enclosed tubes and lab style PSU's are just about required
HeNe components CAN "bite ya" hard

Peace,

I'm the third guy at PL who would know. Eidetic would just buy it from you on the spot, unless he already has one.

You are holding a tube that was off the production line of the first or second mass produced HENE laser. Your missing the rest of it, the resonator and massive power supply.

Yours is a bit different design then most of that brand, because of the two side by side cathodes, which would probably make Eidetic very happy.
Its not ULs first design, as this one is co-axial. Probably their second design.

I assure you its up to air, that yellowing epoxy has rapidly leaked on all the examples I've seen in the past 20 years.

The bad news, its soft, lead glass, so attempting reprocessing it will probably just crack it.

Enjoy your collectors item.

Then I reread the thread and find out he already has bought it. Such is life.

================================================== ==================================

So Hak,

Am I the "Different" one or is that Eidetic? I promise I DONT do neg rep...

Steve
