Umbilical cable/power supply for an SP 161?

Does anyone know where I can find an umbilical cable and power supply (8 Amps) for a Spectra Physics model 161 argon?
I've looked around on eBay, but to no avail.
I might just buy a full system and swap out heads if I can't find the necessary parts. Would this damage the laser heads in any way?

Do you mean buy a full system and just swap the tubes around so you have the tube that needs the umbilical and connector inside a head that HAS an umbilical and connector and then just hook that onto the 161 PSU ? that should be fine as long as it's the 161 PSU you hook it onto and get the connections right.

Not necessarily swap the tubes, but the entire laser head assembly. I would leave the power supply and umbilical cable connected, unplug the umbilical from one laser head, and then attach it to another.
Or is unplugging the umbilical cable from the laser head that frequently not a good idea?

It's just a bunch of wire with two connectors on each end. There's no problem with disconnecting the umbilical to hook it up to a new laser head (it's probably best not to do it 50 times a day though)

Does anyone know if this power supply would work with a Spectra Physics laser head, assuming the proper output current (Since the umbilical cables are mainly the same)?

Yup that should work, as far as I know all of those 9-pin "high voltage" style connectors have the same pinout in both JDSU and spectra heads. But, why dont you just make an umbilical? You have a head and PSU right, you just need to wire them together?

I haven't received the argon head in the mail yet, and I've still been looking for a PSU that can output 8 amps (I've mainly seen PSU's that output 12). If I haven't obtained an umbilical by then, I'll probably just make my own.

well when the PSU says "12A" it doesn't mean that it only puts out 12A. It means the tube current is variable from around 4A up to around 10-12A. So really ANY small argon PSU will work, as they all have roughly the same tube voltage and current, it's just a matter of wiring them together.

So how would I go about making an umbilical?

You can probably get the connectors at electronics supply stores like mouser or digikey
