That machine is a work of art just as it is Mike.

Imagine the fun you could have at a comicon with it.

I'd probably have too much fun and get arrested. A balloon parade however ---- Hmmmmm!

My dog, that is some strange looking mutant K-9 you got there. Possibly a by product of genetic modification?

- well at least you can call your dog a bitch. :)

Hi Mike, I'm very interested in building something similar myself, how many watts is that tube rated for? Whats the rage that it can ignite, say, cardboard with that expander? Thanks Mike!

I have one of these tubes with the RF pre-amp that I have never even gotten close to using. I would let it go for $200, shipped in the US.

Here you go guys. $200 for some POWER. This isn't for a noob or someone not understanding this technology. BUT the lasers I got like this from the same seller always meet or exceed the hand written PO's. While the tubes are the same, the drivers vary and I believe this one needs 5V, 12V and ~28V. The 28V needs about 12 Amps. I believe the yellow wire is the PWM power control input.
Another thing, the big driver transistor on the board likely needs heasinking. This is a nice project for the advanced experimenter.

I have a spare I might sell but not for only $200--------

If you get this laser, don't point it into one of the hobby power meters sold here. You will smoke the black coating on the sensor so fast that the sizzle sound will make you sick. I smoked one of my Scientech heads but I was able to fix it. The raw beam needs to be diffussed to prevent sensor damage and it has to be able to withstand 10+ WATTS.
This is a REAL laser project !!!!

Ya those Lakkman CO2´s are nice, very small for their output power compared to the regular HV fed co2 tubes.

Yes, Mike is right, I'm reading a lot about CO2 lasers and them can be very dangerous (even for the high voltage)! The safety glasses are absolutely required OD>7

Find me a pair of safety glasses that aren't od7+ at this wavelength.

I found the video (with no help from the F:)cking search bar - maybe because it's over two years old.):
The safety glasses were ANSI approved, made of polycarbonate from the smell of it, and had a thickness of 2.2mm. First burn is focused with about 2 seconds to penetration, followed by unfocused with about 16 seconds to penetration. If you can't tell you're being hit by your laser in 16 seconds, you deserve to catch fire anyway. So I'd call these quite safe.

Addendum: No cows were harmed in the making of this video.

Link still works for me.

Peace,

So does that mean that you don't know whether it works or not?

I may be considering this Dave...

For example this on ebay has an OD >4 :)
