Here you go guys. $200 for some POWER. This isn't for a noob or someone not understanding this technology. BUT the lasers I got like this from the same seller always meet or exceed the hand written PO's. While the tubes are the same, the drivers vary and I believe this one needs 5V, 12V and ~28V. The 28V needs about 12 Amps. I believe the yellow wire is the PWM power control input.
Another thing, the big driver transistor on the board likely needs heasinking. This is a nice project for the advanced experimenter.

HMike

I have a spare I might sell but not for only $200--------

If you get this laser, don't point it into one of the hobby power meters sold here. You will smoke the black coating on the sensor so fast that the sizzle sound will make you sick. I smoked one of my Scientech heads but I was able to fix it. The raw beam needs to be diffussed to prevent sensor damage and it has to be able to withstand 10+ WATTS.
This is a REAL laser project !!!!

Find me a pair of safety glasses that aren't od7+ at this wavelength.

I found the video (with no help from the Fcking search bar - maybe because it's over two years old.):

You have as much guarantee as the other 15 or so of these that were made. AFAIK, they all worked. IIRC, Mike got three of them.

If I had made the effort to hook it up, you would not be seeing it here for $200

Dave -- Maybe the high current input requirements has driven them off. I used two of those hand held car starting packs for my first try. At FULL charge, I had about 28 volts and was able to test mine out. Now I use 8 x 25650 cells or a 28 volt DC supply cranked to max.

IIRC they will run with as little as 24V.

However, I cannot find the paperwork on it.

It must have been in the box of stuff that was stolen

I'll try to search back through the forum for the threads from other people who got these

Most of them are looking for guarantees nowadays. There are not as many hard core experimenters, like us, here today. Even a really good price is not enough. They want a video and a printed graph of the finished laser operating. Maybe I'll go ahead and hook it all up and then sell it for more

Peace,
dave

Dave --

I think we have over 9,000 members and only about 100 of us actually experiment and build? I still think we need a special forum for the experimenters. Perhaps a place reserved for the advanced experimenter would encourage 2,000 others to get going and stop playing tv games and causing trouble. They might learn Ohm's Law !!!!

I think it would encourage a bunch to rise above appliance opperator status and enjoy the feeling of success. Winning a TV game leads to nothing but this would be a real goal. If you want to push some too -- go ahead.

I'm wasting my time ordering a selection of ballast resistors from Digi-Key right now. And looking for clear tubing.

Gee I remember my first HeNe, I could not afford the tube and power supply at the same time.

Out of necessity I had to fabricate a high voltage supply from scratch if I ever wanted to see the tube light.

I know my supply was not even close to spec, but my tube lased..... I was happy.

It was years later when Meridith had a sale on supplies that I got a proper power pack to run it, I was happy all over again, because it lased even better.

Growing up, I had to fabricate and build most of my projects from scratch, it was rewarding and fun, plus it led to a career path that I never regretted yet.
