Here's some additional pictures. The flame shots almost blind the camera.

This is an expanded view of one of the expanders before final assembly.

This picture shows the laser hitting a pine board at 3'. I did it close so I wouldn't burn my door! My wife is tired of the burn marks here:shhh:
The beam instantly starts the fire with a pop sound.

Since the beam is invisible and we all know that diffuse reflections from a 200mW green can hurt your eyes what kinda protection would/do you use for the invisible light at 5+ Watts?

Typically, 10,600 nM IR is absorbed by almost anything and plastic lenses in glasses stop the beam. If I put my glasses in front of that, I'd have a hole in the lens.
A local manufacturing operation uses wrap around goggles when servicing the laser but regular plastic safety glasses for operation and that's with 1,300 Watts.

By the way, 1,064 nM from a NdYag is also invisible but a different animal. I wear wrap around goggles for that.

So far, I've focused it to 35' and almost started a BIG fire. That was with the 4x expander. I noticed the fire while small and doused it......
When (if) summer comes, I'll try it outside for distance.

I've tested regular polycarbonate safety glasses with my 60W co2 beam. Unless they are in the focal point, it takes at least 10 seconds to penetrate. I made a video a year or three ago somewhere.

I know you wouldn't. (it's just I have a picture for any occasion)

BTW that was a controlled burn I did to get rid of the dead grass.

If I had that awesome C02 unit of yours, I would mow that field with it every spring.

If I have offended you Mike, just say the word, the pictures will be gone.

This is cool, you should paint it like a bazooka and put a ~20-30mW greeen targeting laser on it... I would do that and carry it around. :evil:

The "lasers" used in the firefight part in the first Starwars movie were white. Some of the troopers carried a short carbine style weapon.
I have a green module for it, I'm still working out the mounting arrangement. Note that the grip has two buttons!
