If you're gonna make a CO2 laser you may as well shoot for more power because the difference in cost of materials for a 100W tube vs a 25W tube is small. I've been wanting to build one myself but have been stuck trying to acquire suitable optics.

As for the cost, a lot depends on what you can scrounge. Also a home built laser is likely to be much more fiddly and unless you've built them before, you will probably be a lot better off buying a commercial tube if you want to put it to real use.

Thanks piferal, LInk 1 is dead though, i tried link 3 and went to buy now and it basicly came up with a ebay style listings and there was only an 80w listed for 250.

I checked out the last link to the forum post but since it was 2009-2010 dating had figured he'd sold all of them, and as pointed out in the 2nd to last link, it would be best to get a little more then you want for a similar price and just decrease the current to reduce power and then if need be increase to desired levels, provided the psu has adjustable current.
