Single-Line ~500nm Ar-Ion Laser?

Hey everyone.

Trying to fill in my wavelength collection... are there any ~500nm Ar-ion lasers that were produced? Or is it only 488nm and then multilines?

Let me know, would be great to be able to find a ~500nm Ar-ion!

Argon lasers don't have a 500nm line, closest is 514.3nm, which I believe is actually the 2nd brightest line behind 488.

The far left green is the 514.3nm line.

Really? I checked on wiki and got this:

"351.1 nm, 363.8 nm, 454.6 nm, 457.9 nm, 465.8 nm, 476.5 nm, 488.0 nm, 496.5 nm, 501.7 nm, 514.5 nm, 528.7 nm, 1092.3 nm"

So I figured I could get something at 496.5nm or 501.7nm?

Possibly, though if they do actually have those lines, it'll be at very low gain, ie you'll need a stupidly powerful laser to actually get them.

Hmm. Shame!

I suppose I'll need to get something in the upper 490s or lower 500s somewhere else!

You could shell out $4500 to CNI for a 1mw 500nm. Other than that, yeah the gains will be minimal. I've only seen a few 9 line argons here with the ~500nm lines still poking through.

Most multi-line argon lasers have the 496.5nm and the 501.7nm line. Those are the two to the right of the 514.5nm line in Things' picture. You won't find them in single-line unless you have a tunable argon.

Hmm. I'll just have to get a multiline then and then build an apparatus to make it tunable (i.e. stepper motor driven slot driven in such a way as to only let one wavelength through at a time).

I have a single line 514nm arson. My internet is down right now so its hard to link but I have a short thread showing some pictures of mine. Also I think Dave still has one for sale in his irons for sale thread.

While 514 is great, I'm looking for SOMETHING that only emit a coherent beam of ~500nm =p

If you can figure out how to make your own SFG you can combine Nd:YAG's lines of 946nm and 1064nm. That's how CNI does their 500.8nm.

The issue with the above is pretty obvious. I'd suggest waiting for binned low WL green diodes.
