Today was the day.
Well, I actually made the purchase a week ago, but today was the day I picked it up... my first gas laser. It's a green HeNe in the sub-2mW range and it it purdy.
LPF's wannaburnstuff was advertising a 543nm JDS Uniphase unit and I thought this would be the perfect start to my gas collection.
My camera is not great at color rendition, so perhaps I'll take some more beams with a different camera this coming weekend. Things I love about this laser already... the color is quite pleasing to the eye, the beam is tight... and I mean really crisp, not having to worry so much about duty cycle and battery life, the shutter, and it's my first.
I know these look like I just drew some lines on a black screen in MS Paint, but I wanted to at least take something to share when I got home...
This shot shows the beam size difference of the 532nm CNI GLP and the 543.5nm HeNe:
I just want to say thanks to wannaburnstuff for an extremely smooth and professional transaction... not to mention a great price and exchange of goods as advertised. I highly recommend dealing with him based on my experience. He actually worked with me to hold the unit and allow me to pick it up when I was in his city at a later date... AND to show appreciation for saving him shipping, he threw in some diodes, modules, and a pen laser as thanks. Top notch transaction all the way around.
If any of you have pointers for me as a new gas laser owner or advice on where to go next, please leave it here...
I get the feeling I might need more space.
Cheers!
/c
update: a new camera (that records motion), the new HeNe, a black sheet of paper, an Old Fashioned made with my favorite bourbon on the planet - Garrison Brothers, and some fumbling around with movie maker... viola! (It looks better if you click through and watch it in HD)
