Welcome to the gassy side. Enjoy your new addiction. I too like you started with a green HeNe then got a small bare tube red, then a bare tube green (the two tubes in my avatar), then a multiline argon, then a small red head, a bare tube yellow, a yellow head and finally another multiline argon. You see where this is going? ;)

Yeah, It's going to bigger and more exotic,
and bigger and more power,
and bigger and different gasses,
and bigger and more money.
Did I say bigger.

Gas is wonderful, tricky but wonderful.

Nice wavelength you got, lucky you
+1

Thanks, man. It felt right to jump in now. :)

Hap you poor devil --
You are now hooked on gas lasers.
YOU started with GREEN !!!!!!
HMike

Yeah... just don't tell my wife. Let's see how long I can keep up the ruse.

Congrats on grabbin' the green! It was a great deal and I'm glad it went to a good home!

I know little of gas laser supply and demand on the used market. I've always respected your comments here and your posted opinion in the sale thread was actually what pushed me over the edge. Thanks for that... and keep adding value here. We need more of you and less of the "how do I light dynomite with lasers" people.

Welcome to the gaseous side! Mike is right... you're fate is sealed now!

We'll see. I'm still hungry for something yellowish before I migrate entirely from solid state. :) Haha...

Glad to see you made it back alright and are enjoying it!

Thanks, man. It was good meeting you and I appreciate the solid deal.

Hey KapHn8d, congrats on your first gas (laser that is).
Looking forward to seeing some more of your photographic skills displayed with your new HeNe.
This has got to be the only place that someone is congratulated for having gas! :D

Shooting lasers with a camera is something that still eludes me... Bruce is the man. I'll be happy if I can get half the quality he consistently churns out.

That sounds like a fun ride as long as the wallet isn't empty. :) I think a bare tube is in my near future.

lol saw this earlier and was at work so I forgot to comment...welcome to the gassy side!

and....

WELCOME TO YOUR DOOM!

Gas is quite a lot funner than diodes, and this is what truly starts to allow you to understand/play with lasers and their physics. Hope you enjoy your new HeNe!

Oh yeah, I'm pretty fascinated by it already and I'm a total newb.

Congratulations on your first gas laser! Let's see how long you can resist buying yourself a beast Argon

From personal experience, I think you'll get one in less than two months. :D The gorgeous spectrum is impossible to resist...

LOL. I've actually started looking already. You must have a magic eight ball.

You know, it's funny, but the more I get into this hobby, the less I'm enamored with raw power and the more intreagued I am with subtle color differences and the ***iness of longer duty cycles, better beam characteristics, etc. I actually use my lower powered lasers much, much more than the stuff that lets the fire out of things. Sometimes less is more?

So I updated the OP with a video I made tonight. It's basically the green HeNe through lumia glass on a slow rotator. Pretty cool. I think the artifacts are from my camera. I'll figure it out one of these days. Cheers!

You know I wasn't talking about raw power

I have handhelds lasers over 1 watt, but my favorite is my SP127 which is 4 feet of glowing plasma. But only about 40mw power. Makes me happy.

That is so awesome. Have you ever posted pics on the forum? 4 feet is huge!

Indeed it's awesome. I'm realigning my sp 127 ATM. But it does almost 50mW! I'll be putting up a pic tour of sorts soon! Keep an eye open :)

Yeah I hear ya. It's challenging with such a long tube... Lucky you had someone to do yours for you. It's awesome to see running with or without the cover. It's fun to see a powerful hene. And a little intimidating.
