REO LHOR-150M Bare Tube

Finally got my REO and had enough time to play around with it while taking pictures! Not really a thread on this odd tube that I could find on here other than what it does...so while Bloompyle has been researching, I think I'll take a moment to share this thing with you all.

Might be an LHYR tube as well, it is a bit more yellow, but I haven't measured to confirm

The tube itself with its foam bracing on:

The anode end (glass)...as you can see, the anode on this one is much like my brewster tube, with just a pin/rod fused into the glass.

Light her up!

output diffracted: top to bottom is 611.9nm, 604.6nm, and 594.1nm:

.....and here it is with [609.07nm?] line added at its full strength:

and just because there's a huge spacing at the end and a obvious place for a HeNe standard anode clip on the back, I also did a run with the rear anode connection, which ionized that last little bit of the bore, giving it about a .5mW boost in power.

I also note the mirrors are quite thick on this laser...and it emits a pretty good beam out both ends... though the cathode is clearly the main OC. does about 2.5mW out that end, or a little under 1mW out the other end...

Thanks...now I'm really wishing I had mirror mounts. I'm finding myself needing them more and more by the day. Hopefully I can make enough money to by some soon. I really need to start getting a few. I need some 1" 3-axis mounts, as well as some adapters for HeNe mirrors, and 20mm mirrors...oh joy.

I have a old one of those from a Laser Chorus Viper. It will be on a OSA with .0.01 nm resolution later this week to nail down the wavelengths.

I'm quite curious as well. I'd like to stay up to date on it as well. I haven't heard from sean or sam lately, so be sure to let us know what you come up with.

YES! YES!

Another tube doing 609! YES!!!

PS: I sent this to Sam ;)

Last from Sam and I was that it needs to be seen on an OSA. Our math, and arithmetic can only go so far. The scientific community isn't going to accept measurements done with a wooden ruler, string, and 2 thumbtacks.

Damn! That was just with a diffraction grating and no external optics? I think tonight I need to fire up my REO tube (model 30580), let it run for awhile to get up to full power and try a grating on it again. I've seen too many REO branded multi-line tubes not to try again.

Re: REO LHOR-150M Bare Tube

Yes...though sadly mine has been getting sicker by the day, and just stopped lasing....just found out there is a crack in the anode. tried to run it for a bit today after using a sealant on it and got a flash, and then it ran for a few seconds then went out again with a sick clicking noise of sorts. I'm not sure what happened totally, but I think when I got it, the anode got damaged, and had a superficial crack, as it was poking out of the cylinder when I unwrapped it. I think it has now been thermally stressed enough that it finally broke all the way through, the initial rattle it had when I got it has gotten a lot worse.... :(

my 3.39 um is also pretty old, and it wont start either. putting it in the microwave makes it give off a purple discharge...so I think its done for too.

Yes I'm devastated... Though bloom, I'd like to talk about a few things with you when you get a chance. We can examine these, and I also feel like I can make use of them. Since I have Brewster tubes, all is not lost.

I also got recently a stablized reo red tube (will post on it later) that uses a different hr setup than normal tubes, making an L shape cavity. I also got a huge uniphase 1145 coming. So I think some interesting things may be coming if I play my cards right.

REO and their toys. I am free for discussion this weekend :)

I need to run this REO/PMS this weekend. Good old softies :)
