Man I want one. I do have a 5mW Novalux 488nm DPSS to get me by for now and it's not a room heater:crackup:

I thought I'd post a reminder for all the argon owners to fire them up and give them some love.

Capital idea, even let a HeNe burn a while for good measure.

I want, I want, I want.

If any one needs their dog walked, er um, Argon worked out periodically, I've started a service. PM me and I'll give you a quote. ;)

I gave mine a run yesterday... Poor thing, I left it for almost 2 months at one stage. Now I just need a multi-line one and maybe a krypton!

Fired up the argon for about 90 minutes for its monthly burn and decided to have a little fun. Threw it into current mode and ramped it up to full power. Not the best pic in the world but I can only run it at full power for about 2-3 minutes with my current cooling setup before the thermal protection kicks in and shuts the tube off. I have to admit is it pretty cool to look down the split beam when it's at full power.

Love Ml. Had mine burning today for about 30 minutes. Literally raised the temp of the house by 3 degrees.....

It's not so easy when you have 12 of them to run :wtf:

--note to self -- need to run a clearance sale

Peace,
dave

Let me know what you have in 220V there Dave, of course multiline and we'll try and organise to reduce your laser count by one :)

Your last update to your sale thread is 4/13/13, and lists a 105mw cylindar laser, a 145mw laser (which I am not sure is 220V), and an 80mw cylindar. these are all multiline.

Cheers
Ben

edit: and there goes the 105mw cylindar one - to me :p Yay in a few weeks I'll have an ion again :D

This reminds me, I need to find someone to take a look at my ML Argon. It hasn't been run in over 8 months now. No plasma, no clicks like it's even trying to light. I've had issues with this before and I've always had to move the umbilical around to get it to light. I'm nearly certain it's something to do with it. It's too much a job for me at the moment.

I run mine every couple of weeks though most of these cylindrical jdsu units are pretty happy to sit a coupke of months at a time according to laserfaq.

It wouldn't be a chore at all if it weren't for the 1kW of heat output!

It's not just the heat, its the power bill rising...:) if it wasn't that they are current hungry I would run them all the time, ( well not literally).
Argons are just great, and now with 4 HeNe incoming .... It will be even better.

They are not bad at 4 amps but at 10 amps they turn into flame thowers:crackup:

It's much better to run them at 7 amps than 4 amps, idle current and lower actually hurts tube life. Idle is meant to be better than constant starts as less sputtering and ablation, but it is not better than simply being on or off.

Power is only $0.10 per kWh here, so a 1hr/mo maintenance run only costs me a dime.

Mine only has 20 hours on the meter. It shows all 6 lines at 5 amps or so. I run mine at about 6 amps most of the time. I wish power was that cheap. We are in the 2nd or 3rd tier most months so that's .13 to .30 per kwh
