yes. the last sole orange I saw was 798 new surplus @ 2mW....

Melles Griot doesn't make them anymore as far as I'm aware... in fact I think most companies don't produce them anymore except as tunable lines now...

I don't think any company makes them at all anymore... all we can find are by scrounging the leftovers. eBay is and has been on the watch list :p

Are orange HeNe's compatible with common PSU's, or do they have specific PSU's just for them?

They have pretty regular power requirements comparable to greens and yellows. So a regular PSU will work with them, as long as it meets the requirements.

Of course every tube model has a preferred PSU, but there's rarely a reason to match them. In these smaller tubes, if it needs 2.5kV @ 6.5mA, then any old PSU supplying that will match your tube.

Sounds good. 612nm HeNe hunt here we go :p

What would be an example of a 612nm HeNe for $125 and for $800? How about $300-$400? I'm trying to get an estimate of what kind of output/condition correlates to the pricing. I'm assuming this is laser tube/head only, not laser+PSU, correct? Thanks

Again, it's all luck. If the seller sees it as just a HeNe, and doesn't know what the model number means, or the significance of orange, it could be cheap.

Maybe they see other HeNes for $50-150, and the price around there. You then get it for cheap.

Or perhaps they do know its worth, and they price it high.

It's all based on luck.

So basically, as long as it seems like a good price, snag it because there aren't any left to snag? :p

Make sure it is working before you buy or be ready to accept the loss!

Peace,
