New argon, need help

Hello All,

Long time, no see. I recently purchased the pictured Argon laser from an industrial auction. I got it for $30. The lot description read as if it would come with power supply. Well it didnt. Can you guys help me find the correct one??? Any help would be much appreciated.

This is my first argon. I realize it might not work because it has been sitting so long, but at 30 bucks it was worth a shot.

Chip, I probably can't help you find a matching supply. Though I can't see it being too hard. Not sure but by the looks of the sticker you may have a mixed gas (Argon/Krypton) unit capable of producing white!

Have you tried punching the model number into Google and checking same FAQ for info that may lead to a matching PSU Name/#?

Edit: Looks like you want a 261C PSU.

I searched a bit but no luck. i found a company in Utah that pointed me in $3000 dollar direction. F that!!

Np chip. Usually to get an idea of what you need. Just search eBay with the model numbers and check the auctions with complete setups. You can usually get general info on what you need if the item is not rare and then confirm it by using Sam's FAQ.

It seems the matching PSU for your unit is pretty hard to find but it seems there are also multiple psu's that will work with it like with some small frame Argon lasers.

I checked for some OEM psu's for you and didn't come across any. I hope you can find a PSU that will work your nice little head

I also hope the unit you have is in fact Ag/Kr filled and it has the white optics in there

You should open your head when you have time and check to see how many hours is on that tube.

Hi Michael,

as mentioned to find a 100% matching PSU will be hard if not impossible. But often it's possible to adapt some closely matching PSU.

Can you please show some more pictures of tube itself? This mayl help to identify the kind of tube.

Go to the FAQ and pick out a cheap and appropriate PSU to build. The schems are there and you can learn a lot too.

Occasionally, you can find a 261C PSU on eBay

However, with the "C" models you have an even larger challenge
The "C" models use a separate umbilical
This is different than the "A" models, which have the umbilical integral to the laser and are much more prevalent

In my experience, the umbilical for these is more rare than hens' teeth

I just might have a power supply for you and it was even checked out by daguin, he said the supply was good but my tube was toast, you were there when that went down I do believe.
I'll have to pull it out and see if it's the correct one you need.

Thanks guys. I really appreciate all the feed back. If i cant find an affordable psu then i might just sell it. if any of you are interested pm me. Now i should go delete my op so you don't know how much i paid lol jk.

These are great little argons.
I have one that was not used for an extended period of time.
After a long night of intensive argon care, it lased and is now the more reliable of the two.

Shit Michael, sorry to see that your purchase wasn't what was claimed. If you can get your hands on a pinout and some nice high-quality cable it is possible to make an umbilical, but you'd need to make sure that the wire guages are right for the various signals that will pass through it. An umbilical is just wires and connectors though, so as long as you have the right connectors and info in terms of the pinout you can DIY, at least in theory.

Modifying a small argon laser to run on a different PSU usually isn't very difficult, I've got a NEC/Showa head running on a JDSU PSU

Mainly a matter of finding the correct pinout.

I feel jipped Pat. the auction house said it was my fault for not "previewing" lol.

I'm such a mess right now. I still need to get my projector going.
