About a year and a half ago, I came home from work and found my hene laser was not in its usual place on the window sill. I asked my wife what she did with it, and she said she put it in the drawer of our hutch. I immediatly went and got it and plugged it in to find that it no longer lased, and I could hear something rattling inside of it. "What did you do you stupid beotch?" I thaught.

It was a steal off of Ebay for $25 plus shipping, and it was only 6 months old when I got it. Melles Griot with a beam expander. $25 for the laser and psu brick, $30 for shipping and $40 for customs brokerage fees to Canada. Cheap for a hene, but not free either.

Anyway, it has been sitting and bothering me for about two years, and I would like to get a new tube for it.

I don't really know where the ballast resister is in the thing because it's probably buried in silicone inside the aluminum tube.

However the psu brick is perfectly fine, rated at 1.1-1.5KV@4.5mA. 12Vdc in.

I WOULD LIKE TO GET ANOTHER LASER TUBE TO PUT ON IT.

If anyone has a tube and possibly the ballast resister too, that would work with this PSU brick, I may want to buy it from you if the price is right.

I hate looking at this thing sitting in my basement. Every time I look at it, I get a little bit angry at my wife for "putting it away". She has been quite supportive of my laser obsession/hobby over the years, with the PHRs, 445s, Greenies, and HeNes, etc. One lousy broken laser shouldn't get in the way of our relationship, especially if I can simply get another tube for it.

Hook a brother up!

Thanks,
Steve

P.S. This is a thread I started not long after I got it. The picture shows what it looks like.

Looks like a small tube.. I have found these locally in Toronto, but many years ago
in a couple of surplus shops. See if you have any surplus retailers in your area
and start making the calls.

I have a larger Melles and the resistor is siliconed in the rear cap, just have to dig
it out.. carefully. Getting the tube out may be tricky if you want it in one piece,
hopefully yours is got little glue and the the plastic screws..

I would just keep a close eye on ebay. Lots of HeNe tubes show up and some at terrific deals.

Otherwise I'm sure you could also get one from Sam Goldwasser. He's got lots of those little tubes and most are very inexpensive for that size. Send him an email and I know he'd hook you up with the correct tube for the power supply.

I've bought power supplies and tubes from him and never had a problem.
