Just showing off a bit. Here is my latest toy. It is a 635nm (~red) HeNe. Its original rating was 35mW. Now (used) it is putting out an easy 19mW. The tube is 25 inches long. In the picture I included a Rayfoss host for perspective. This is the brightest HeNe I have so far. The quest continues.

That tube's got some length to it. I definately need to get on the gas laser scene, this stuff looks way too cool!

I have a few 5mW 632.8nm tubes in housings and bare and 2 supplies...

I also have 2 of those long HeNe tubes but haven't
found a good price for a PS yet to test them...
The smaller supplies just cant kick them hard enough...

Hey Jerry, if you are trying to run multiple different tubes without wanting to buy a power supply for each, look into getting a variable supply. I have a 100-15kV supply for up to 20mA, it does a great job powering all sorts of tubes. You can pick them up on ebay for less than $100 usually.

Thanks for the link Dave... ;)

I would actually prefer a variable supply as was mentioned by Laser_Ben...
I don't think this one is variable...

Thanks for the offer of "alden" High Voltage connectors... but I have quite
a few myself...

That's a beast Dave ! Need some beamshots though :D . Do you know if the tube is segmented or just an elongated standard HeNe tube ?

Don't try to tease me into cutting into this to see . . . .

heck! i was rarely that amazed and laughing that hard as in this thread! one half-a-meter hene? whoa! and now seeing a cop with that monster instead of a baton, with hell of a beam coming out, rotating it, and simply being intimidating! roflmao!

congrats on that beast, dave! i dont dare to think about where that quest will bring you, eventually..

I'm jealous!! I have a JDSU 1145P (I think it's the same laser you have there in the picture... but if not, it's rated for the same power) but I have no PSU to power it up with... It needs like 4kV @ 6-7mA and the biggest HeNe PSU I have is only 3kV.... wont light it, it just makes it flash.

The PSU I linked to in post #7 is the one I am using. As I warned Jerry, I had to replace the original plug with an Alden, but it works for me.

I wonder if it would do more with a bigger PSU?

Peace,
dave
