Oh very nice. That looks quite perfect and isn't as much of a bank breaker as I expected. Gunna have to put that on my to-buy list :D

I actually think you answered every question I have had in the last couple days XD

Thanks much bro. I'll send you a PM or post here is something else comes up.

On that note I might be meeting up with daguin today or tomorrow to grab his 25mW 488nm Argon :D

Gas lasers are FUN :p I feel a new addiction coming on....crap

The PSU and laser were salvaged together from a medical device.

They are matched ;)

It's a 0.3mW rated unit, the LGR-120. 4.5mA is fine. Anything higher and you should grab a 6.5mA PSU, unless it's a Uniphase, then 5-5.5mA will work :)

Hey Bp check this picture out. Mine looks exactly like the middle tube and according to this they are typically 2mW. Its from Sam's FAQ BTW.

Are those 543, or 633? He's the one that told me it was 0.3mW rated since I couldn't find it, I asked him.

EDIT: Those must be red given that that mildly sized tube does 5mW. Like I said, I wouldn't base it's output based on similar 633nm tubes. There are 633nm tubes that do 75mW, and some have peaked around 200mW (granted they're multimode). Whereas a 5mW 543 would probably cost more than a 612 ;)

Hmm. I guess that being for 633nm makes a little more sense. Anyway I guess it doesn't matter much anyway. It's not like I wouldn't want the laser. As is it's currently one of my favorite lasers. Now I have an evil urge to seek out as many gas laser as possible but my wallet will not allow such a thing. I would kill for an 18 inch 543nm HeNe like you have. A new way of passing time for me shall be scouring ebay for tubes :p

My next HeNe project involves a 1B tube, some mounts, several OCs, and possibly up to an additional 2-3ft of external cavity gain. Need to see if the lack of the bore will cause issues (no bore to reflect off). Also need to get proficient at mounting OCs in the first place.

Anyway, it'll be a fun project anyway, I'll stop thread jacking now :p

Enjoy the journy to 612 and 604. Once yous tart, you can't stop ;)

You can get a brand new 19" hard sealed one from MI Lasers for $195. They tend to sell them on fleabay fairly frequently too. I know at one time they were accepting offers between $100-125. I'm honestly tempted to get another from them and put it away because IIRC they are no longer being made anymore. Then again do I really need three green HeNe tubes....

FWIW the larger tube in my avatar is the tube I got from them. Full size on flickr.

The larger tube is basically exactly what I want. It has an awesome super long and visible bore tube that IMO is the perfect design for display.

The smaller tube reminds me of one of the toshiba tubes from a laserdisc player though the end caps aren't normally there AFAIK.
