Me again.. (time for LOTS of pictures right?) As you've probably seen from this thread: http://laserpointerforums.com/f50/what-45466.html I've seen this brand before.. I have a friend who has an uncle who has another friend who deals with these things.

About a week ago his uncle brought a whole (bud light beer) box of laser stuff to take home.. I recognized the plugs and kind of freaked out. I've never seen a gas laser in my life.

Here's 1 bad one and the power supply:

And the label on the power supply for this one:

Here's the part that makes contact. Case negative, the red wire with the clip touches the positive..

2 tubes have this inside? I don't know what the hell did this.. maybe over powering?

And my little setup

I noticed while resizing the pictures (still big.. but I don't want to make them too small) that the 2nd tube shaped power supply has 115/230 VAC input.. I ran downstairs and put it all together. I tested the supply by touching the wires while it was unplugged (I read that's a way to test if there's voltage coming out on Sams laser site).. it ended up that the 75K ballast resistor was close to my hand.. and the bastard shocked me. 1/4 inch black burn mark and all.. O well.. it's only nearly 2,500 Volts at 6.5mA right? lol..

Anyways.. I hooked it up.. nothing happened. I read that if you shined a light in the tube that sometimes it's enough to kick start the tube. Nothin. (The resistor started crackling.. Is it suppose to do anything like that?) I came back upstairs after I shorted out the power supply and sat down. Somehow the supply still had some juice in it and shocked me for the second damn time while hooked up to the tube this time though. I noticed when it shocked me the tube lit up for a split second (WTF?).

Does any of this story hint at anything I might have done wrong?
(besides shocking myself with nearly 21 times the voltage coming from the wall.. hah)

BTW on pic #14 there is a ballast resistor in that Black end cap...
FYI... once you disconnect power to the Tube it will hold a charge
just like a capacitor.... so be careful...
