I have a LaserPhysics argon that keeps making a like clicking sound when its turned on. It just wont lase at all. Any ideas to what this problem might be and how to solve it? Emission indicator is on, main power is on, fan is on. Thanks.
 





I don't think that's zdark's auction. The description in that auction mentions being unable to test whether the unit lases.
 
maybe i should tell the seller how to jump the remote plug in so he can test it.
 
i was reading sam's faq and remember seeing something about argon clicking without lasing, i'll try to find it again
 
That clicking sound is the ignitor firing by the sounds of it.

Two things are possible in this case. The tube won't light so the ignitor keeps firing.

OR the tube has lit, but is not lasing and for some reason continues firing the ignitor.

First reason is most likely. Put a piece of white paper infront of the aperture and see if you can see any sort of light ( Coherent or not ) coming from the aperture while it ticks away.

Don't let it tick for too long though - Ignitor pulses aren't good for the cathode, they sputter bits of the cathode off each time they fire.

Remember kiddies, if its wired for remote control, enable is enabled on the remote connector, and there is no command voltage on the connector pin, all you get is click click click if the idle is set too low for the tube to strike, or if there is no idle setting, as some OEM systems have no idle.

Something to think about before you condemn used Argons.

I think I should put in my 2 cents worth here so that if someone chooses to buy this laser, they are making an informed choice.
I did ask this guy who's selling it what the issue was with it. He told me that it failed soon after he purchased it and was trying to get his money back from the seller, but that didn't work. So he then said that he would try to sell it on ebay to try to get back what he paid. How much he initially paid for it, I don't know. What bothers me is that he's advertising it on ebay as 'untested' when it fact it has been tested and is in non-functioning condition.
Honesty is the best policy, as the old saying goes.
