i want to run this argon (in my sig) on us 220v regular house wiring. this is 2 phase, right?
anyway, what i ask is can i just put an appropriate male plug on my input and just plug it in to my house 220?
i remember reading that, but i wanted to ask y'all to be sure.

the reason i ask is that i just popped the circuit breaker because i had other stuff on the same circuit. i was able to reset it in about 15 seconds and the fan came back on, then i shut the laser off and the fan continued to run until it cooled down. i gave the whole circuit back to the argon a bit later and it worked as it should.:thanks:

Wait!

Did you answer your own question?

It worked but pulled more current than your circuit could handle with other things on the circuit drawing current too, so it tripped the breaker?

Then you unplugged/turned off the other stuff and it worked fine on the circuit?

Peace,

I'm not sure how your mains wiring works exactly there in the US, but the argon is 220V SINGLE phase input. I would assume that the 220V you have in your home is also single phase, as it's rare to have more than 1 phase to your home.

It's designed to run on Australian mains, which means it's probably rated to run at 50Hz instead of 60Hz also. I can't see your pic so I'm only taking a stab in the dark here, but considering you got it from TLL, I'm pretty sure I know which model you're talking about.

If its the shoebox style laser, its designed to auto switch. It will run of 110 and 220v. Your breaker is tripping because the laser needs a lot more current at 110V than 220. You can safely run that laser off the 220v dryer outlet.

Sometimes the hz difference (60 vs 50hz) matters, but in this case it does not.

I used to own one and remember they are universal switching supplies inside (I pulled mine apart :p)

Yep! Still have it in a box somewhere. Bought it as a dud from TLL to try and get working to power my argon head, but couldn't seem to find the issue with it. So I gave up and bought a JDSU PSU from Dave instead :D
