Point them all at the same spot on a piece of wood and see if you can make a white spot.

The green is overpowered by the 445 and 638 sadly. They're also insanely bright and dangerous, so aligning them would be hard.

also, this is my 450th post!

Nice pictures! Looks like you're enjoying the new toy!

Your camera does the same thing as mine with 488nm, makes it look more like 473, but that really doesn't capture the greenish colour 488 has.

Well, after running this thing a few times, i'm really impressed with how bright it is! Is it normal for the beam to be clearly visible in a dark room, even running at idle? Also, is it normal for it to start out with bright (kinda like a flash but it lasts for about half a second) then go back down to standard brightness?

It's interesting to see it was rebuilt in 2009. Good for you. I once inquired with JDSU about a possible rebuild and they told me they don't rebuild those units anymore(I'm guessing they would service them but not replace tubes). Then they offered to sell me a new one. I declined.
Maybe national laser company cleaned up the internals, tested the boards, and replaced items except the tube. Hmm I'm not really sure what defines "rebuild" on these laser heads.

Great shots btw! Love em all

Thank you!

yeah, i don't know much about that, but maybe asking the national laser company would be a good idea, since they seem to have gotten this thing into tip-top shape.

It varies with the condition of the tube when its sent in, but generally for these little air-cooled tubes it involves a long process of rebuilding the cathode and baking out the tube in a vacuum several times while flushing it with fresh gas to get all the old gasses out of the ceramic and metals from its previous life, before being refilled and tested. as well as any cleaning and new parts it may need. it usually runs a couple thousand bucks depending on how much work it needs.

Wow! that makes it even crazier that I got the whole thing + the fan and controller for $300, and that's including the shipping for everything! I got a damn good deal... hope other people get as lucky as me with ebay.

Yep. They're about 7-8K new. The large Omnichrome 643 mixed gas whitelight lasers and the HeCd lasers are nearly 20K new. A few hundred is nothing by comparison.

I wonder what the cheapest anyone on the forums has gotten a working ion laser for (any ion laser, they're all expensive).

Default Re: JDS Uniphase 2214-20SLMD laser! (PIC HEAVY)

Nice Argon , I paid 140 USD for my 300mW ILT 5500 ML argon : D

It did 40mW @ 5.5A - 350mW @ 11A

Till I sold it .

I think that it might be too late
Thereís nothing left to confide in
The only thing concrete is this weight
So Iím stuck here deciding
How much more before I break

My heart is sinking like a stone
In an ocean of itís own
You said Iíd never be alone
I guess I shouldíve known
