That one is a sper scientific or something along those lines.

At least we know there is no IR coming out of those Green tubes

Near IR anyway. They certainly get warm enough to add in the mid-IR spectrum. Best to measure with a good distance between the two.

A few notes that may help others that bought one...

1) there is a Turn On delay once you apply power. So give it
time to turn on.

Jerry

thanks jerry. this is the same model i received, well packed tho.
i had power to the p/s on for 2 minutes i'd say, long enough? gonna give it one more try before i ship it (p/s) back.

I just did a series of power measurements after removing
the turning mirror mount.
After letting the Laser tube warm up for 30 minute I got a
reading of 3.9mW. Twenty minutes later it peaked at 4.0mW.

To say the least... I'm quite happy with my Laser purchase
even though it was badly packed.

You are correct....
I've stated it numerous times that most Lasers will emit radiated
heat energy and the laser should be at a distance from the LPM's
Thermopile sensor head...

i mailed the p/s back yesterday. hope to have my tubes running by christmas. i've been searching for a male alden plug with flying leads for my bare tube without much luck. does anyone have a link to a source? tube lights up!

got my p/s back from ken and my tube lights up!
i still have to find a male alden with a red and a black lead, not coax, to power the bare tube. i may have to engineer my own solution.

I have a Male Alden connector with a 55" cable I could let
you have... PM me...

That one is a sper scientific or something along those lines.
Photodiode based power meters have an advantage here, they do not pick up heat and have less drift so you have a far better signal to noise ratio compared to most thermal lpm's.

got my p/s back from ken and my tube lights up! makes a great beam and clean tem00 spot. gotta love the simplicity of these tubes.

Cheech,

Why not just strip the braid down so that you can solder that to one end, and extend the (insulated) inner conductor around to the anode? It should work that way, too.

And, good that the tube lights! Those big GreeNes, I think that selloff we saw is pretty much it... They *are* the more powerful of the GreeNe's out there and for the price with PS you just couldn't beat it... I'm not so sure we'll see them again, so I'm glad you didn't have to send it back.

cosmetics really. i had seen an idea about using a bare tube for a lamp and wanted nice black and red wires showing. the design is still fluid tho, i'll go with what i have when the moment's right. prolly do what you suggest just to see it lite tho. i do appreciate your and everyone else's help with this.

Don't forget you need ballast resistors as close to the tube as possible. **ALL** HeNe's require these.

they want ~$16 to ship ups - no usps option available - looks like an error tho, i'll check back. thanks dave!

@qumefox - they shipped the resistor with the bare tube - nice!

I think it is an error. I've gotten aldens from mi-laser before, and I *know* it came USPS, and I know it wasn't $16.

In fact, I have a 9mm diode *in* a USPS box right here, shipped from mi-laser earlier this year... So I think it is an error. Call them, i'm sure they can help.

yeah, it looked like just an error, i couldn't select usps for an option.

i did "pollock" rig (i'm a sosnowski) my bare tube up with the p/s ken resent me and it lit up Great! i dig seeing the plasma glow and that nice tight green dot. i like it as much as my firedragon.

edit: i have a much weaker coherent beam coming from the HR of my bare tube - is this normal?

Thought I would just post this here instead of starting another thread....

This came up on fleebay...a...looks to be in good condition...543.4nm HeNe with power supply.
A pretty good deal for anyone looking to pick one or two up.(it doesn't show them actually working....your decision.)

Here is a helpful link to Sam's web page, where you can look up most of the HeNe's that are around....I still run into some that are not listed here, but it's a pretty good list.
