A 150W tube would be great in my machine, ignoring the fact it'd hang 2 metres out the side and I'd have to replace all the optics ... one day

What kind of bore is that 80 watt tube you're sorting me out with Dave? Just wondering how the current area ratio shapes up to my 11mm bore.

Probably 12 to 15 mm, hard to tell and no way to measure it.

Just tried the tube and measured it, it's pumping 69-72 watts effective.

cheers

Nice Work ,

When I got my Co2 from a UK company , they delivered it themselves in there own van as UK postage would just break the 60 W tube :P

Edit - Just saw the pictures , My tube was from HPC lasers

That all looks absolutely great Dave, the high voltage from that PSU should certainly help get over worries about my vacuum pump not being up to scratch. Would me picking it up or you dropping it off be easier for you?

Chris at HPC is an old friend I've had quite a few of his machines so far without any problem. He's a clever chap too, there isn't very much he cannot fix when the need arises.

I don't mind dropping it off Henry, I'm in Bath next week on two days :0

cheers

I have prettymuch the exact same thing. Too bad though it's not a little bigger. The mills however are another story. Loose parts, noisy geartrain, etc. Have you powered either up?

What kind of machining do you do? I've been using my dad's colchester student lathe and dawe westbury mill for all my work, it's very nice to have large machines working well within their comfort zone, it made machining the mirror mounts a breeze.

I've made a diode press, battery tab welder electrodes, other hand tools, heat sink customization, etc. Right now I'm making an entire host from scratch for the I "C" Red Battle Royale contest. It would be nice
though to have something larger like that colchester, South Bend, or a Bridgeport.

It's the bigger one of the two mills, I have all the collet chucks (ER20's) and extra stuff, both power up fine (they are variable speed) I just never got round to using them. I did have a pretty extensive machine shop at one point but eventually sold that side of the business off to concentrate on laser cutting.

I'm at Jennor in Bristol Tuesday and Thursday and will be going via Bath between 5pm ish and 8pm ish I would think.

Quote:

It's the length Truss, weight isn't a problem, but parcels that length on my courier cost 523.66 to ship to the East Coast from here. If the tube could be sawn in half it would cost under 75 to send. I can get an 120 watt EFR or RECI shipped here from China for just under 2/3rds of that! That aside, I can imagine the US customs service thinking it's some kind of component for a hand held laser cannon and hanging up every thing I send to the US afterwards.

cheers

Ah that's good, I'm just outside of Bath on the south side, would it be easier for us to meet somewhere on your route or do you want to drop the stuff off at mine? What's the plywood for? Do you ever get any one off jobs or is it more big contracts?

I do quite a bit of one off stuff to pass the time when the contract orders get tedious The Ply is for making markers for wargames for the Warhammer manufacturer over in the US. Sometimes I'll make stuff like doll houses or ornate boxes just to see something different for a few hours I do contract work for individuals as well when time permits.

Will be easier to drop the tube at yours, it's 5.5 feet long and fragile to be transporting around

cheers
