Alright, my new interest in gas lasers, mainly helium neon's has led me to buy some things from heNebay, one complete inclosed system, one complete bare tube with powersupply that I have just bought, and the first bare tube I bought, which is what this thread is about:beer:

So does anyone have any ideas if the seller's 900-1200v rating is accurate? See pics below:

Im also wondering if maybee I can use the 1200-1600vdc powersupply that is coming in with my newest order?
I like this tube alot because it shows more plasma than some of the others I have seen.

1200V should do it. You should be able to use the 1200V-1600V one you have coming. You may have to increase the resistance, but probably not.

Peace,
dave

He'll need to rectify and filter it too, as he specified 1200-1600VAC not VDC.

Oops, typo, sorry about that guys. It is AC input, DC out, here are the specs from the power supply:
Power supply model: Melles Griot 05-LPM-959-04
Voltage in: 115vac or 230vac
Voltage out: 1200-1600vdc max

Thank you Daguin for the advice. Thats what I was hoping, so I dont have to go hunting for another power supply.

You will need a 75K to 125K ballast resistor abd 1100V or so to run your laser tube. Yes this 05-LPM-959-04 is the correct power source.

Excellent, Thank you:beer:
I ordered 2 75K ohm ballast resistors from merideth a few days ago, hopefully I will have it up and running soon:D

I got this baby up and running today:D I bought a cool little power supply from meridith to run this tube, the supply runs off 7v-9.5vdc and outputs 1050 to 1450 VDC. I wired it up with a 75k ohm ballast resistor. Using 2 3.7v CR123's it ran smooth for a few min, then started flickering, so I wired up two 18650's and havent had the problem again yet, so I belive I was getting some input voltage sags.

Some neat pics:

Here is the link to the power supply if anyone wants one:Meredith Instruments : 7 to 9.5 VDC Miniature HeNe Power Supply [LPM-827-037] - $39.00 - The source for laser surplus
I plan to use it to make a small portable HeNe lamp that runs of two 18650's
