I bought a fairly average Coherent Innova 70 argon system thats been repumped into a mixed gas Ar/Kr.
Supposedly it does 2.5 watts and works. I will have to wait to find out tho.
Still, another whitelight ion laser. =) . Cant beat that with a bat.

When it comes in please post some pictures of the unit and beam shots :)

Good to hear from you

Great. pics are a must :) I'm getting my little whitelight omni 643 back up off the floor soon myself. I gotta put the right mirrors in it, as it currently has YB mirrors in it instead.

Hey, UltimateKaiser, I just ran my Melles-Griot 643 this past week. Its gone a little blue from the lack of running for a year, but it came back into balance after about an hours burn. The arc struck down the return bore initially and I immediatly shut it off then on the second try it struck into the gas return path to which i shut it off again. The third try it fired down the bore just fine, and I let it run full power. The color balance changed and power went up to over 110 mw by the end. Its got a custom RYGB optics set. Its really heavy on the yellow and red and when I run full power it gains a second red. The beam on this is like a 10 milliwatt He Ne, TIGHT!

Absolutely beautiful, I would love to see the beam and the different lines from that laser!

White light has been a goal of mine for a long time. It's nice to see people working on them so I may learn abit about them.
Keep us updated.

yeah the 643 heads have a habit of doing that, just reduce the current and it'll strike like normal part of it is that yours isn't running with light feedback on the outside, which isn't good for it. I do imagine there's a huge loss of power indeed from adding the green in without a change of gas and optics. We used to have a spectra physics 2020 white and a coherent water cooled lasers setup. I'd love to have the 2020 personally, but I have no idea how I'd go about powering and cooling it. they're serious power hogs. but it'd be fun to own. run it mid power though if you can, as max power kills these things quick. I always start mine about mid power. but the fact that mine can do huge amounts of power despite its age is quite interesting. yay for the huge gas ballast.

One night at the Plane-arium...

I brought my Purelight star up to the Planetarium one night to give it some burn time since it had not been run in a year. Took her top off & ran it full out at 40 + amps for a few hours. Got the excess gas buried and the pressure and voltage back in the sweet spot & all was good.

Nice I always wanted a large Ion. Too expensive for my blood though...and I've got nowhere I can run it.
