Finally got a PS set up for my last hene. I could run any couple at the same time, but lacked a way to power both larger tubes at the same time. finally got a DC power adapter to power my 12V HV brick for the greeNe so now I can power all four colors at once! the complete collection! Minus the invisible IR lines of course! :)

Some fun with my tubes last night and today!

Dual bare tube Orange 612s having a blast together! My LOR-161 loves its little sister LOR-006:

All four colors together just taken!! left to right: 543nm 4.2mW 594.1nm 4.1mW 611.9nm 2mW 632.8nm 2.8mW

Now you just need 604nm and 609nm  that wavelength dot shot is great at showing 612nm btw

Thanks you guys! been quite a hard journey getting all four. suprisingly, I paid the most for the yellow, rather than the orange. though thats mostly because the yellow is a new tube, not used. all of the above are melles griot tubes.

left to right is a P-122, a LOR-161, a Meredith instruments yellow that i'm almost positive is really a LYR-173, and a LGR-193. Total value......WAY TOO MUCH :p

Awesome. Epic HeNe wavelength collection! Its just too bad the plasma doesnt glow the same color it outputs, eh?

true. but the discharge is, after all, technically the sum of all the colors at the same time. you should see my Brewster laser with a proper alignment. the red intracavity light is VERY bright. A BLAZING red needle thin line between the window and mirrors in a clean environment. It states on the tube that with a superpolished HR mirror it was rated at 60 watts. it blurs out the camera hardcore. that's just how much power is wasted inside the tube of a hene. you only see perhaps a percent of the output. for the other colors, its even less due to a combination of less total light to begin with (the lines are smaller than red) so you need a larger tube, and even better mirrors.

How much did that 612 cost you man?

I believe the orange was originally around $800. it belonged to Melles Griot's R&D department, and then was given out to surplus when it was retired with the orange line production. It only outputs half what it's rated to do. but since it was in a head it was unknown just how much use it had, since it was unable to be inspected by the owner. I bought it for about 300-ish since it was under-spec and unknown condition. It isn't a hard to start tube, and the bore is clean, and the discharge doesn't seem to be off color to my eye, so it appears to be in good order. I suspect the mirrors have been thrown due to many repeated thermal cycles. I've put it back in its head for now to keep it safe until i decide to possibly work on it. the smaller orange was similar in price, and is brand new. I doubt i'll sell either, but if I ever do....it'll likely be for far more than I paid for them due to the rarity.

This makes me happy :)

I will eventually have enough PSUs to do this. I generally buy PSUs that work well with multiple tubes.

GREAT PICS!

You've almost got a complete rainbow there.
Very nice!!

My first laser that I played with a a child was a green HeNe 543nm 7mW for
doing holograms at science camp.
