Fan for Argon laser

So I bought an argon and it's arriving soon, but it won't come with a fan. I asked many companies in Greece about the price range of their centrifugal fans, but they were like 100 euros minimum. I need to know if someone here knows off a good source or has a spare fan to sell me for under $100. The fan will be mounted on a cylindrical argon laser. Since I know nothing about these fans, I cannot search for the right ones on ebay. MarioMaster pointed me to some deals but I thought I'd ask here first, in case someone can sell me one for a good price. Hope I get something soon.

I have one that I harvested from a DNA sequencer. It was originally used to cool a JDS Uniphase cylindrical laser (2214-40ML). It is pristine. It runs on 230V mains.

You may have to change the plug. You will need a short bit of 9cm vent hose to connect the laser to the fan.

You may also want to build a housing for it ;)

Because the package will be just over 4kg, it will have to go Priority Mail. Shipping alone will be ~$55! :gun:

You can have it for $100 shipped

Peace,

I'll think about it. Could you please post pics? Also, I just confirmed the argon i'm waiting for is the same version :)
Since your fan runs on 230 V mains, there won't be a deal with the plug. In Greece we use these plugs everywhere.

The fan Dave has is ideal for you - you should be able to find vent hose on eBay or in a local hardware store, and if getting a fan from Dave falls through you should also be able to get one on eBay. I can try and sort you out with a 230VAC fan, but I'm overseas and I'm not sure if/when I'll be back.

I don't remember if MarioMaster included the vent hose with the laser. I'll need to ask him later. For now, I need a fan.

EDIT: It seems I need a vent hose as well... Can I operate the laser without a vent hose and mount the fan directly to the laser?

Vent hose is extremely easy to find. It is what goes between a clothes dryer (or other vent) and the wall ;)
I would NOT connect the fan directly to the laser. It would just make it too bulky and awkward. As I said, you will probably want to build a housing for the fan anyway

You CANNOT operate the laser for more than a couple of minutes without the fan. The plasma in an argon laser is quite hot.

Thanks for searching for me, but no, those deals are too expensive for me. I already spent like $500 on the laser shipped. What diameter needs the vent hose to be?

I've got one. I'll get it weighed and find a shipping cost to Greece. I can send some tubing along too (for a small price)

Those were just for pictures for you. They are not my auctions.

My offer is $100, shipped to Greece.

The hose is ~9cm dia.

Yeah I figured that. I'll see how much it would be by rob and consider your offers. Thanks.

I don't know if this has enough airflow, but what about using an old fan from car air condition system? I've got one of these, it had an enormous airflow. but it's broken now :(
I think you can get these for <20 euros at some local car spare parts store

Hey Dave,
A while ago, i bought this from you. Can you confirm it'll work with a cyllindrical uniphase argon?

Well -- You have to assemble it first ;)

IIRC we took it apart to get it to fit into a flat rate (or at least a smaller) box.

That is also one that was harvested form a DNA sequencer. It is the stock blower for that style of laser. It was made to work with a cylindrical JDS Uniphase laser.

It will work perfectly

Peace,
dave
