eBay Argon & HeNe?

Hello, all!

Well, I've been scavenging around Fleebay for an old HeNe that I can buy for a
maximum of 50 dollars, and I came across this especially (to my wallet, at least) appealing JDSU 1103 HeNe
that I would definitely like.

JDS UNIPHASE

I'm just wondering, since the rule of thumb is that if it's too good to be true,
that it most likely is, if this is a good buy or not.
Of course I would still need a PSU and such, if anyone has any resources on a
unit that would compliment this model, links would be highly appreciated. :D

Re: eBay HeNe? *first gas buy*

Well, it claims to be working, says that's it's guaranteed to work, and even if the seller refused to take it back you could always file a claim with PayPal if it didn't...so not much of a risk for the price, I'd say.

The only thing- does it include the PS? If no, do you have one that would work with this model?

Still seems like a good deal to me.

Re: eBay HeNe? *first gas buy*

Yup I purchased it, it says it should be here by June 9th. (woohoo)
I don't have a PSU, and it doesn't include one. I thought I would buy one from Dave, but
seeing that he has taken leave for a while now, I'm thinking about other sources.
Do you know any PSU's up for sale that would work with this HeNe?
Sorry, I'm just a newb to all this gas stuff.

Thanks

I'm very, very excited!!! But I still need a PSU, though. I'll find one.
EDIT: or work on finding one at least.

I'm also interested in these argons here (I think they're multiline), but, again, I am at a total loss as to if it's a
buy or not, and what kind of power supply it would require.

The 1st link you posted is a HENE. Its hit or miss if they work or not. Sometimes they are out of allignment ect. For the price you paid it isnt a bad deal. Its about the going rate for a hene.

HOWEVER. No where in the auction did I see that a power supply was included. Which you WILL need if you want to see that hene running. The good news is you can pick one up for about 20-40$.

Now for those argon lasers. The 1st one is a
Cyonics 2212-4SLMD Uniphase Argon Laser Class IIIB

This means it is rated for slightly above 4mw and is SINGLE LINE. If its less that means the laser is pretty much toast or on its way out. It as well doesnt look like there is a power supply included. These usually run about 100$.

The second argon ebay one you linked is a UNIPHASE ARGON LASER TUBE 2214-40MLA

This means it is rated for 40mw and above in good shape. Anything less and the tube is on its way out. This laser IS multiline. It will probably produce 4-7 lines depending on the tube shape and the current you run it at. It loos like this one does not include a power supply as well. It also looks really beat up so I would think its out of alignment. A psu should run you about 100$.

missing cord on one and cable cut on the other; I wouldn't get either

EEW yeah.

I take it back. Both of those argon heads are TRASH. Basicly only good for parts.

If you are looking for an argon. look here - http://laserpointerforums.com/f64/fs-argon-gas-lasers-60325.html

I can assure you these argon lasers were taken care of very well. You will also know what you are buying.

If you still want to take your chances on ebay I will try my best to assist you.

Meh, after reading that, I don't think I'm gonna gamble that much money on a potentially
defunct argon tube.
thanks for the FS source, I'll look at it here in a second.

I in no way meant to imply that I thought the HeNe had a PSU, rather, I'm just stating that
if anyone has a PSU FS with specs that look like they would fit the tube, to let me know.

EDIT: Anything Dave does is usually spectacular and works nicely, one of those puppies
may just land a spot in my growing collection.

No problem. I just wanted to make you aware (if you weren't already) that there is a good chance that hene didn't include a psu. :).

Alrighty :) haha!

But seriously, thanks. I appreciate it. For all I know, I could be buying parts to
a fusion reactor :p

Stay far, far away from those argon heads you linked to. If you really want one get one from Dave. I can vouch for his argons. He does a great job repairing and cleaning them up. The argon I've posted pics of many times is from him.

If you want a HeNe and matching PSU check Sam's for sale page. He has a nice kit for $45 that comes with a small 6" bare tube, mounting brackets, and PSU. You just need to get a 24v 1A wall wart to power it which can be had for like 4 bucks on fleabay. If you're not familiar with Sam's Laser FAQ (and his classified page) it's run by Sam Goldwasser a well known and highly respected member of the laser community. He's not going to screw you. Hell he's probably forgot more about lasers than I'll ever know.

The specific HeNe kit I bought. It's nice if you want a bare tube. I went with the $5 alden style connector option as well.

I think that goes for just about everyone on this forum haha! :yh:

I've looked through his site but I must of have glanced over the classifieds. I'll
be sure to look through it very thoroughly. Thanks again for the link.
