Remember, that PSU is producing 1200V-1400V. Also, both the PSU AND the laser tube act as capacitors. They WILL bite you if you are careless; even after they are unplugged.

Finally, make sure that your 24V power source is putting put at least 500mA.

Yeah I think a lot of it is that admittedly HeNe lasers are more of a novelty these days to most people, unless you're doing holography which is something where diodes can't even come close, and also something where an enclosure to block the stray light is absolutely essential.

I have a mix of stuff, some PSUs were made without connectors, others had them snipped off, some because they were dead and I repaired them, yes it can be done.

At this point I've lost count but I must have around 15 working HeNe lasers from .5 to 20mW in every color but orange, and a few random tubes. Also another 10-15 PSU bricks I got from Sam that are in various states of disrepair and/or reverse engineering and a few half baked beginnings of my own designs, something that I haven't had a chance to pursue further for a while now. What can I say, I love HeNe lasers
