First let me say this isn't my laser. I'm posting this for new member Rodsbod since he is having issues getting photos attached. He originally posted his questions in the "companies" section so I am putting this here so he can get some more attention. He thinks this may be a HeNe but I'm not sure.

I believe he is also looking for a fair estimate on value and may also be interested in selling it. Please understand, while I think he is legit, I am not making any clams about this laser.

Hene made for a autocollimator alignment system or similar. The only difference between it and normal head is the beam is precision centered and paralleled with the housing, known as "concentric and parallel" in the business.

Those lab style MG power supplies seem to go for around $50-$150 depending on who's looking. That one is good for most 2-5mW tubes, and is more desirable if the brick inside has a current adjust pot. (Look on the end near where the wires come out, it may be covered by a calibration sticker) The head, assuming it's red is probably worth $20-$50 assuming it's in good working order and not on its last legs. As with anything else though, YMMV.

Thanks James. I was going to suggest to him around $30 on the head would be a good starting price, but I had no idea on the power supply. Almost all the power supplies I've seen for HeNe's tend to just be bare circuit boards, this is the first lab style supply I've seen for a HeNE.

I've only seen a few bare circuit board HeNe supplies and most of those had at least the output section potted. Most of them are potted bricks which is what those lab style supplies have in them. Literally just a standard brick, line fuse, keyswitch, etc.

I looked inside on the brick, it does have an adjust pot. It looks like nobody has opened the power supply due to the locations of the wires and condition of them as well as the brick.
As for the head, yes it is red but I'm not sure what you mean by head. Does the front part of the laser body unscrew?

The head is the entire laser assembly, a glass laser tube mounted inside a housing with a ballast resistor, power cable, etc. It's the standard terminology when you have a laser system with a separate power supply.

Neither, it adjusts the current from the power supply. Too low and the discharge will be unstable and may flicker. Too high and (contrary to what one might expect) the output will drop a bit and tube life will suffer, also the ballast resistor can overheat. Unless you have a mutlimeter that can measure mA and want to rig it up, leave the pot alone if it's already the right power supply for the tube you have.

Yea I'm not going to touch it. It's bright enough and looks like it performs like it's supposed to. Would like to trade it but not sure how to go about it.
Any suggestions?

Post it in the buy/sell area here? You could also list it on ebay, or contact Sam G and see if he wants to buy it or trade something.

Hm, that's neat. Don't have a use for that feature, but it certain wins this laser points for being extra interesting. :D
