I don't have a picture yet, as I don't have the tube in my hands yet. It measures just under 14 inches from tip to tip, and 1.5 inches in diameter. The only markings on it are "14.9" in blue marker on one end, which I'm assuming is the mW it tested at, and a white sticker with a barcode on it. The sticker reads "R 182 1408EG", and the barcode itself brings up nothing worthwhile on google. Any information would be appreciated (make/model/possible power supply specs to run it, etc) and I'll update this with a picture as soon as I can.

I would wait until you have the tube in hand and can post some pictures
That number calls up noting for me

looks like one of the 2mW rated HeNe tubes from Melles Griot. Have a similar one (same size/length) from Meredith Instruments labeled as "P302" instead of "R182".

I had a batch of these awhile back
The number written on the tubes were pretty close to the outputs I experienced

If you have never worked with a bare tube HeNe before, be warned
The bare tube acts as a capacitor
It will bite you when it is running
It will bite you for some time after you turn it off

If it is indeed one of these, one of the coolest things about them is that the output is on the end of the tube where the capillary is exposed
That makes these especially attractive to use for lamps

Peace,
dave

that divergence is crazy.

yep, the divergence isn't nice. Have three red tubes at home and only the "big" one (19") does have a nice beam/divergence (similar to the small green DPSS). This one is also perfect for making holograms.

If I do remeber correctly that the bad divergence of some HeNe tubes is mainly caused by the type of mirrors (curvature e.g.) used to achieve maximum output power... guess a lens with "very" long focus length may help.

no doubt.. it's a balance between output power, tube length, and beam quality.

i have a 20mW HeNe with very good divergence (~1mrad), but it's 26" long.

I'd say that has to be what I have, the length and width match almost perfectly. I appreciate you digging that info up for me, I"d never have figured it out on my own!

IF I can get this up and running, a lamp is exactly what the end result will be. I've been drawn to that pink glow since Dad brought home a Pioneer LD player to rip apart, out of an old Dragons Lair, ~25 years ago.

Power supplies to fire this one are looking rather expensive tho, at least on eBay. I did, however, find this:

05 LHP 123 496 5mW Helium Neon Laser PS 05 LPM 830 065 | eBay

That PS looks like it should work, but maybe just on the lower end. Not sure if a 2kv max PS will do the trick, the specs for this tube say 2.09kv. If anyone has a PS that will work here, and willing to selll for a reasonable price, let me know. Input doesn't matter to me, can be 12vdc or 120vac.

Thank you everyone for the help so far, it's much appreciated!
