If you want an argon I would suggest ordering from one of the members here.
Those gas laser can be a real shot in the dark if you get it from ebay....LOL take it from Silvershot and Me!
Try these two sale threads for some Very nice argons, at fair prices and also you know they will WORK!

I got my argon from Dave at this link:
http://laserpointerforums.com/f39/fs-argon-gas-lasers-60325.html

This is a link to a sale of a VERY nice self contained unit(believe me that this is sometimes well worth a little extra cost!)Also Timelablasers is a great guy and easy to work with.

Remember that you will pay extra for a small unit like Timelablasers and also you will pay more for a Multi-line unit like the one I got from Dave.
Good luck and have fun!
I see that you already have that Gas Laser Fever!;)

Edit: An argon set-up will include the tube(laser it self), PSU, and Fan(with connection to tube). Many times you will see only the tube for sale, or tube and PSU but no fan. Just some things to keep in mind.

I haven't actually seen it yet. there is an electronics festival this weekend that has like a flea market that people sell stuff. my dad went to it today and told me they had an argon laser there for $300 he didn't tell me anything else about it. so hopefully i can make it over to it tomorrow (if my wife can wake up early enough). so if it is just the tube or if its missing one of those elements how far should i try to talk them down?

I would say that if you can't see it lase in person(or a picture from a web sale) than it may not work. These lasers can fall out of alignment from a hard drop and also over time will loose their gas and after a while not lase.

My suggestion is that if they don't know if it works or they think it need just "some repair" it probebly is not worth any real money. You could re-align a unit, if that is the problem, but getting them refilled is very expensive.

If its a full unit: tube, psu, fan...and they don't know if it works, than I would say $75-100 might be fair(someone else can chime in on prices). Many times you can match a like tube with PSU.
If it does work than the price is dependent on the size(one unit or separate parts), power output, and is it single line or multi-line.

Either way Flea Markets are always fun, just never know what you'll score at one.
Have fun and good luck

The other thing to very very careful about is that if the laser has been sitting around for very long time, the tube may not light even though everything else in the unit works.
Whether $300 is a fair price or not depends on (as 532 with Envy said) what kind of laser it is, how badly you want it, and how hard you've had to work for the money.
Once you've tried gas though, you won't look back.
