Ok, so I'm looking for an argon laser, and I might be able to buy one. I took a look on ebay and found that :
http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120410227804&translate=yes
The desciption says that two power the transistors are shorted out. Does anybody know if I could repair it? And how should I test it? I just wan't to know if it's a good deal, and if I'll be able to get it up and running. And oh ya, almost forgot, is the beam gonna be teal? Like a mix of green and blue?

If it were that simple, why wouldn't he just replace them himself and sell it for far more?

There is another post somewhere on this forum that talks about this same laser.....I cant seem to find it now :-/

If it works it seems like a deal.... Argons are VERY FRAGILE Make sure they pack it nice and tight if you buy it.

As I said in the last thread that you made a post about that laser, shoot me a PM and I'll get you in contact with someone who can help you fix the power transistors, or at least find replacements for them .

the beam is a cyan color.

Ok. But it might take a while before I buy it...

Keep your eye on it ;)

Also, you are a Canadian ? :D

Not been to Quebec yet , maybe next time I'm in Canada though.

Best of luck with your purchase :)

Hi

This is not really related to this thread it is to do with an ion laser but can a ion laser that produces 50 mw of uv be turned in to a laser that produces visible multi line to get more power from it.

Just wanted to know sorry for posting it on this thread did not want to start another for just one question

Thanks

Depends, are you talking about this ? : Argon Laser on eBay, also, Lighting, LEDs Strobes, DJ Equipment, Consumer Electronics (end time 29-Jun-09 14:55:15 BST)

If so then probably if you can find other optics for it. It really depends, I don't know much about that laser head, it could be an SHG system meaning all you'd need to do is take out the SHG crystal to get more visible light. But it could just be using UV optics , in which case you'd need to change the mirrors to visible multiline optics.

Yeah it's 16,000 hourso n the tube, and no thats not really a good thing ! :( but it seems to be working, so it has some life left in it yet !

I'm going to dig some more info up on the head for ya ;)

Yeah got some more info on it, it's not an SHG system. So that means it's the mirrors that are designed for UV/488 operation. Heres the problem! the Coherent Innova II uses sealed mirrors, meaning you can't change them round. If the laser is doing 180mW 488 and 50mW on the UV lines then it's up to spec. You're still going to need access to high current single phase and a lot of water flow ( around 8 litres/min ). Shipping isn't an option here as the total packaged weight would be over 200lb.

EDIT: So it's not really worth getting ... 230mW total output, only 180mW visible. It would need 30A single phase and water cooling. You would be better off with an ALC60X with multiline multimode optics, that would make 200mW multiline at 10A tube current. the ALC would be cheaper too.

Hi

OK then thank you for the help i will wait for a multi line one on eBay and 100 pounds is my limit so i hope i find something i have asked for the prices of some 1-2 watt lexel 88 laser w/ps that are used i will probably save for one

So thank you for the help i will wait instead.

A good lexel 88 will do 2.2W at 20A tube current and make a nice 4W at 30A tube current ( for less than 1 second ). But you're better running them at 15A tube current for more life. I was originally going to get a lexel 88 but that fell through. They are very good units, quite small. They have a larger beam diameter than other argon lasers though.

I will keep looking do you have a ion laser. i alsso found a Argon Lexel 85, 3w
