That is NOT neccessarilly true at all. And yes I'm fully aware I'd be looking at $1200-$1800. But it's a moot point since nobody, and I do mean nobody, has them for sale. New or otherwise.

JDSU: "Please be informed that this 1679 type of laser is discontinued. No longer offered in the market with no replacement"
CVI-Melles Griot: "Obsolete, we don't produce those anymore."
REO: "The 612nm product line is no longer offered."

Part of me is thinking that I really need to move these lasers up on my priorities list. I wonder what they were ever used for to begin with...

If I hear anything, i'll let folks know; I'm searching high and low here. I've called/emailed about 20 companies today with no luck.

The guys at CVI Melles Griot even said they'd look in old stock / back stock / underspecs for me; they got back to me today and said they had none. (Were perfectly willing to offer me a 594, though! So those are still made.)

Much better response at CVI-MG than at REO. They really tried!

Dave, I presume you're not open to me offering a dollar amount, are you. :)

Awe that sucks. If only the guy had taken like 5 minutes to properly package it.
A general rule I go by when shipping is: If you wouldn't feel safe dropping the box on the ground and then kicking it down the stairs it probably isn't packaged well enough.

Yup, just received a dead JDSU 1145P (that was testing at 20+mW before shipping) today. :( I'm stackin' up bodies here... I think a lot of people are pretty much like, "Well, I got paid, chuck it in a box and forget about it."

How was the new one broken? Was it actually cracked in the box? Will it light up at all?

Cant tell if it's cracked; it's in the sealed jdsu cylinder. Won't light at all on jdsu 1218-1 supply. No light at all, not even blue glow down the mirror. Odd thing is, after shutdown when unplugging, zap is so strong it arcs across the Alden pins.

When I get the money for an Argon, I'm definitely getting it from someone I can pick up from close by.
