Amoung the other colorful hene tubes I got a week or so ago, I got this little 6" hene to use as a nightlite in our bedroom. Here is my attempt at that.
The Box is oak with the dc supply inside - feed goes to the ac/dc brick and wall
The base is 6" x 3" x 1.5"
The short side has an Off/On button mounted on the base (barely visible in end shot)
It is 6" high and the tube is mounted at a 45 degree angle.
The 4.5" piece that goes up, I drilled for the feed and the ballast reistor inside and then drilled a small access hole to attach to the top of the tube.
The long support is 4.5" and the smaller supports are each 1.5" so the virtual box holding it is 4.5" square.
If you take square root of 2 times 4.5" it gives you about 6.36". Just enough to fit the tube with a little give.
You can see the hole drilled at the bottom for the tube to slide into. Likewise there is one at the top for the beam to exit, both at 45 degress.
The one picture from the end wasn't shot straight on, so even though it looks a little crooked in the picture, it really isn't.
SO, give me some feedback! Good or bad, I'd like to hear it. I'm building about 5 more open exposed hene housings in oak in the near future for the bigger tubes. So I'd like input.
