So here it is! A few knew about this on laserchat, but it didn't go very far from there. Also, if you've read my sig over the last couple weeks, you may have seen it ;) Otherwise, this is the teaser until my pho-- camera is working again :)

A while back, Sam emailed me about another HeCd that I may be interested in, this is along with another goodie that I just remembered while writing this thread. You'll see that eventually ;) Anyway, he emailed me about 2 MG 442nm heads, 20mW rated, that were recently refurbed by MG.

Basically, these were hot off the presses, and he was wondering if I wanted the one he was getting, for cost of shipping.

Duh, and or, hello?
Of course I did! It's in my blood, I NEEDED a HeCd. One that worked anyway...

Once he got a hold of it, and ran a few tests on it, things were making themselves noticed that we weren't very fond of. Mainly, even with 0.2hrs, it was doing 15mW at suggested levels. Meaning, something went wrong. Even with the "20mW" label slapped on it.

The theory was a toss up between a few malicious theories. Ranging from poor QC by an intern, all the way to MG adding the wrong tube during a refurb thinking nobody would notice.

Regardless, the fan was also placed in the head backwards. *sigh*

So it was all fixed up, fully tested, and shipped off to me!

Once I got it, I ripped open the box, hooked it up, and with a racing heart, plugged it in, turned the keys and knobs, and stepped back.

Quickly the Cd heated up, and there were 442nm photons in <3mins. I guess that's what you get from a refurbed tube with, even now, only 23.3hr on it. I was overjoyed! Finally, a HeCd, and one that works. I've finally got all the mass produced small/medium framed gas and ion lasers. Next comes the CO2 I am building, and eventually a CVL. Though I am currently content :)

With all that introduction out of the way, I can toss in some pics. Now, keep in mind, I had to take these with my .....iPod. Not happy about that, but the phone is under repair. Once that is done, I will be sure to take some close ups, and some HD shots for yall :)

Enjoy!

There is a 12in/30cm ruler on the head for size.

Bloom -- that is a nice color. Getting beam shots from all your gas lasers would likely
blow all power service to the area! -- Go ahead............
You must have a ton of "iron" there.

I started my Lasos ML tonight after 3 month sitting. It started with 8
lines at idle current on the second pop. !!!!! I have it running at 140 Deg F
exhaust air temp.

Awesome! But why are there only ever visible single line HeCds that pop up? Whatever happened to the UV ones!

I'd have to guess that surplus sellers assume they are broken because they see no light coming out.

I'm looking at a 354nm one now, but the gain is so low, I may have to turn it into a 325 to get anything from it. More on that later.

Mike -- I don't even want to power up more than two HeNes. If it was just a regular residential area, I'd wing it. What could go wrong? However, being in a military dorm ... Nope. Not blowing the whole building's power with lasers that are definitely in the grey area already.
