Those of you who have been around awhile, know that I have kind of a "thing" for old gas pointers. I just got a "new" one. It was new in 1972 ;)

The housing is a PVC tube. It has a PVC aperture cap and a "soft" rubber cap on the battery end. The button is plastic. It has an indicator light near the aperture. The button is a momentary switch. You push the button and it shines, (just like a real pointer ;) )

It is a HeNe pointer (red). It is powered by 8 @ AA size batteries (12V)

It is 16 inches long and has a diameter of 2 inches. Here you can see it next to a Newwish style pointer for size perspective.

These are my "old skool" pointers.

The three in the middle are HeNe.
1) The top "middle" is the pointer reviewed herein.
2) The middle, middle is powered by two 9V batteries.
3) The bottom, middle plugs into mains power. LOL!

The pointer at the bottom is actually an early diode laser (red). It is powered by four AA batteries.

The pointer at the top isn't a laser. It is uses an incandescent bulb, shined through a focusable lens, and a mask, that produces an "arrow point." It also plugs into mains power

Depending on the class (each class has a distinct "personality"), I use all of my pointers from time-to-time.

This was an absolute steal I have bid up to $200 for something similar and lost! I got this one for $53 shipped :san:

Wow Dave thats awesome, I would Kill for one like that. I am thinking my next purchase will be my first gas laser :)

Takes me back to my days with my first laser, a Coherent 5mw hene. Using remote controlled servo motors and aluminum foil, I put on a light show of sorts for a "frat" party. The party was broken up by law enforcement, for the number of people outside the frat house, just lingering in the street. Law enforcement thought about confiscating my laser, because they were so new at the time for public possession and they looked at it as being the ruby laser of James Bond fame. They allowed me to take it home on the condition that I immediately leave the party. So I packed it up with the other goodies, and they left after getting party attenders out of the street. When they left I set it back up and continued to entertain. ;-)

i have a 1mW HeNe 5" tube with solid state potted driver out of a LazerQuest gun...1mW....

Thats a nice one! I love that it takes 8 AA batteries, it should last longer than the small Hitachi that I traded to timelablasers, which took 2 9v.

That must have cost a pretty penny when it was New...

I remember in 1986 when I saw and touched my 1st 5mW
HeNe Laser it was selling for over $1300.00 with the PS...

Man, i remember when i cut the HeNe you sold me out of its aluminum case with a cut off wheel. Nerve-racking!!
Tell you what, I was wearing a furry aluminum shirt after that. Cut off wheel throws it everywhere.
