Is this for real or is it a typo (1.5mW? ) I have never even seen a He-Ne close to this power. I was under the impression that the higher the power, the longer the tube. I have a 15mW that's close to 30" long, this one would have to be 30 feet long.
I am fairly new to gas lasers, but have never heard of this much power in a He-Ne. Correct me if I am wrong.
If this is for real, what type of PSU would you need? I would LOVE to own a He-Ne with this much power.

It is listed as a class IV laser.

I would say its not a 1.5mW toy.

mmm. my money says that's an argon w/o power supply being sold by someone who has no idea what it is..

Definitely not 1.5W... maybe up to 65mW if it works at all.

The Spectra-Physics 185 series is an argon laser. I would have to look up what an "F0237" was. IIRC they are "labeled" at <250mW for the Multi-line units. They most certainly put out less than that even when new.

However, you may have noticed that this laser has no power cords attached. They have not been cut off. They have been removed. That's a pretty good indicator that someone has "messed" with it.

Buy this only if you need a new anchor for your boat

I think most of us would love to have a HeNe with that much power but that just isn't going to happen someone chime in here but I don't think they get much above a few ten of miliwatts, have a good day !

Pyro...

Thank you Dave, and the others. I thought it was not right.:yabbmad: Oh well, I can always dream of a 1.5W He-Ne. My 15mW and a little fog lights up the room, I can only imagine what a 1.5 W would do:D

I have seen a Spectra Physics 25mW HeNe on eBay, it was untested though. It also appeared to be 4' long, and about 50 pounds. They were asking $1500 O.B.O., it's probably still there somewhere, I've seen it several times.

Supertechshop is the seller, they KNOW it isn't a hene, and KNOW that some people will ID it as an argon laser... They won't change the discription, they are trying to get someone to buy it and think they got a steal.

Your 15mW of 633 is 2.4 lumens :can: . 1.5W would be 240 lumens or ~20W incandescent equivalent. Lasers are NOT ideal for general purpose lighting.

Without any research at all, that is an air cooled low power argon head...

I have seen that listing a lot.

Beware of untested "as-is" "no returns accepted" "deals"

Unless you like throwing money away.

There is a HeNe tube listed right now for "parts", what frakkin parts??

79.95 for an end cap seems rather steep to me, but wait there is a "free" Alden connector included, YAY.......

Ahh yes, superscamshop. I too have seen that listing tons of times. It's obvious they want to rip off some poor schmuck who knows little about lasers.

Here is that listing....

Bergen Laser Pointer Helium-Neon Laser As Is - eBay (item 150343942904 end time Nov-02-09 18:26:12 PST)

The seller even states that it does not work.

Mariomaster I humbly bow to your amazing collection.....

Regarding the unit in question (Argon head from supertechshop)... Sorry.

Just checked, the listing ended with no takers... Weird thing is it has a NO DOA guarantee and free shipping, And a closer look at the rear end, that is an Argon tube, the wires connect wrong for a HeNe.

If you already had a power supply handy and the knowledge to hook it up, it may have been worth the gamble... But then again, there are brand new air cooled Argon tubes for $150 listed.

I just wish I had a supply and hook up diagram, a metal box and fan would be easy to fabricate....
