NOTE- upadted title- sorry I called it a 'white' laser kit-my bad!!!

While looking around at the new AixiZ web store I saw this interesting kit.
Now I am very well aware that most here could make these or find parts harvested from other stuff, but for 125$ the 'noob' builder can get most all needed to make a simple RGBr (but not , of course a galvo scanner) and I am not saying that you would be a pure white balance BUT still its a cool kit that provides all three colors(@5mWs-all legal) and the power supplies and dichros- you can get leggos for free or fashion your own holders and make a beam combiner easily. I imagine you would need some heatsinking for long duty but still.. that is something that can be easily DIY. Its a new item afaik.

Mini RGB laser kit with power supplies and optics, AixiZ

bookmark/shortcut the new AixiZ web store while you are there. If anybody has problems using it please contact AixiZ.:thanks:

Re: white laser kit-RGBr-from AixiZ

I have my doubts about it.. the only usable parts from the would be the dichros and possible the lenses, but at $125 that doesnt sound too attractive - unless they come with 5 axis mounts, but it doesnt seem so.

Re: white laser kit-RGBr-from AixiZ

I know all cameras are not alike but that sure looks like a teal beam from that green module

I didnt know you were a noob?

It is what it is- three 5mW lasers w/ PS and the dichros to combine. What are your doubts. You cant buy 3 5 axis mounts for 125$ . This is a kit for the newbies! duh!

EDIT: That might be a white balance issue. A 405nm laser isn't (and shouldn't look) blue.

I suspect they've employed some photoshop-ish trickery to the image file. A 405nm laser isn't (and shouldn't look) blue.

yeah your prolly right- AixiZ is famous for thier 'photoshop-ish trickery' lol

If you really think that why dont you just ask him?

If you knew AixiZ and Chuck Maricle you would see why you have me ROTFL. He has NO time for such foolishness. I have personally looked at most everything they sell and the is no trickery going on-- and yeah Bin Laden is really dead too.

Re: white laser kit-RGBr-from AixiZ

That's a good point - that was probably not well thought out of me. My apologies. I trust Aixiz, and didn't mean that to sound as accusatory as it came off.

The 405 looks blue, and it shouldn't, but that could easily be a white balance issue.

My bad * embarrassed*

Sa'll good- and the color does not look quite right but they do thier own photos-

More pressing ATM is what has happened to your tortiosese are they really missing?
Here in Tx a few months back some teenages that jumped a guys backyard fence and stole his 12 yr old 100 pounder- and get this his was a Judge.!!!. IIRC he got it back but I did see a 100$ Reward offered in the local paper.

Now I must go make one more post...I am at 2999- cant allow it to stay there.

Re: white laser kit-RGBr-from AixiZ

Congrats on 3000!

I'm very disturbed by the laser turtle disappearance. I don't want to point any fingers... in fact, I'm very emotionally distressed... not sure I can talk about this. They were very gifted little x-turtles.

Side note (on topic though). How good is Chroma at mixing colours properly? I'm getting:
532 - 100mW
658 - 330mW
445 - 90mW

As balancing to white. That can't be right though - there's no way that such little blue could balance out 100mW 532, is there?

Damn I forgot the turtles can't read a GPS, I'll go look for them...

Re: white laser kit-RGBr-from AixiZ

Good question. My plan is pretty much from the hip. I have a 1W 655(peak of 1178mws-Spacelas)) and the Good Dr Chuck has donated to my cause( cause Im broke) a 300mW 532- My 445 can be whatever I want to balance out the rest using Spaghetti (also donated thanks hinged newt). So I was just going with all that and adjusting the balance once I got alignment. I really wish my red was 635 but that is out of my bugdet. All I am waiting on are my mounts from Mr Willing. He makes nice tiny ones that dont cost a fortune. ($20 each)

Two more simple TTL projectors(Mamba BlackClone & whatever free one I can get) are already in my plans and I have had a bad case of 'Lumia on the Brain' for a while now- If they will all fit I want 6 wheels and 8 lasers on my wheels.

thanks for the kind words on my 3000th post-

hak

Re: white laser kit-RGBr-from AixiZ

I've tried to build multi-colour setups twice, and failed both times. The first was a cyan attempt, and it was fine save for the fact that the case had "flex" to it, and the lasers would go out of alignment from that. So strike one - build failure.

The second was a portable yellow attempt. This time everything was great, build, alignment, everything. Then in finishing the build and installing a modular connection for charging (built-in battery), I let the (+) feed from the two internal lipos hit the 532's case, and poof, dead 532, project failed.

I think I have the mental will to give this one more shot. I'm going to be less "ambitious" and try a labby instead of portables (in aluminum cases). So, more space, bigger easier to align dichros, and no internal batteries.

It won't be as spectacular as your specs, and it won't be a projector - I'd just like a "white" beam labby. I'm going to go ~100mW 532, ~330mW 658, and a 12x 405nm that I can tune up to 700mW until the colour is appropriate.

My feeling is that a 405, while not as "blue" will have a dot spec that is closer to 658 and 532, and perhaps thus be easier to mix pleasingly.

I'm sure this would be a silly endeavor for anyone serious about projectors, but for me, it's the 3rd attempt to mix two beams, so I'm clearly not ready for a projector ;)

Should I know Mr. Willing? I would be really interested in finding a reasonable source for mounts. My approach in the previous builds was to use thermal epoxy between and aixiz module and an aluminum host. This wasn't a great approach, but the actual aixiz mounts were so dang expensive, that they sort of destroyed my intent of this being a DIY endeavor.

Re: white laser kit-RGBr-from AixiZ

Quality Mounts are a must- so I have been told. Austin is a member here but spends more time at PL since varianced complaint laser prjectors are his bag- he is a DJ too. MRWILLING is out of the Dallas area.

Good mounts can be gotten too from Drew. Modwerx has them in stock. I did a review on them just last week. Sometimes good deals come up on Feebay for mixed optics lots.

But we are getting off topic here.

FYI the five babies in your avatar ----

DID ya'll know this?

If those are Agrionemys horsfieldii Russian Tortoises ONE 2-3 inch baby will run you 260$. And they are the medium price range... this one--Baby Ivory Snow Leopard Tortoise 2 To 3 inch goes for $ 925. EACH.
but if they are ONLY-Sulcata Tortoise Geochelone sulcata Sulcata Tortoises, also known as African Spurred Tortoises you will get one shipped for a mere 140$- Once the are adults (20 +lbs they get expensive- 2500$ to 3500$-

- Here is a five inch juvi of a rare species-
Adult Indian Star Tortoise " Geochelone elegans " 5 inch
Indian Star Tortoises are one of the most exquisite and unique tortoises in the world making them one of the most desired species by keepers. ONLY ... $3,850.00- and it takes two to breed and only after the become adults----FYI

how do you tell the boys from the girls?

thats easy the boys wear blue booties and the girls wear pink. ya big dummy!

so those five baby are worth a bid handful of $$-- good thing all you have is the photo.

btw- flat bottom-male
concave -female.

A good rules of thumb is 1:1:1 for 445nm, 532nm, and 640nm. Take the Chroma data with a grain of salt. Our eyes' white balance can adjust to many different whites.

Re: white laser kit-RGBr-from AixiZ

what kind of mounts is austin making? i was thinking of having some dichro mounts made for smaller size optics since most are made for 25mm+ optics.

Re: white laser kit-RGBr-from AixiZ

1. They're careful about not using the word "white" or showing a white beam. Why?

2. Where are the pictures of the dichro "lenses"?

3. Why are two phosphor disks in the picture? Have they confused these with dichros?

4. 5mW reds are usually 3mW, 5mW greens are usually 10-20mW, and 5mW blurays are usually 30mW+. The picture seems to support this.

5. Good luck aligning the beams without mounts :(

6. Their "power supplies" are just modified phone chargers. Sure, they'll work great, but... $125? poor newbs

7. What these cost separately on ebay: $4 for the red, $9 for the green, $11 for the blue, $2 for the phone chargers, and $33 for the white and red phosphor disks for a total of $54 + shipping. And if you buy them all at once, you should get a 10-30% discount.
