Hi guys,
I'm new here, and new to all laser equipments.
I am actually setting up an experiment in the university, and want to get a single or multiple lines of laser.

Where can i buy a laser that make a single line? ==> |
or even better, multiple lines like that ==> |||||||
I don't really need high power. Just a crisp clear line.

Can I just buy any regular 5mW laser and add a DIY pattern? If yes how do make one?

Hopefully i can find these with 405nm.
Any suggestions?

Making a custom pattern would be really difficult since it would have to be extremely small to match the diode head. Plus you would be loosing a lot of light. What you need is a special lens or optic. I am not very knowledgeable on optics but i know for exemple that if you point a laser through the leg of a wine glass, that would result in a line. Then you have to adjust the distance between your laser and the glass and how far the glass is from the target objet/wall/surface to get a sharp line.

You can buy a lens called a "line lens" that when placed in front of your lasers aperture, results in a single crisp line. Here's a link for you, http://www.surplusshed just enter 'line lens' in the search box. They will have what you need for sure, & at a cheap price. Hope this helps you. rob

Is the purpose of Line Generating Optics to broaden the laser?

Does that mean you can see the laser without the use of smoke?

And can optics be used with high-powered burning lasers? And if so, do they weaken the output?

By taking a Laser with a fixed Power and turning the beam dot into
a line... you take the same power and spread it across the line...
making each same beam dot area much less powerful.

You can not increase the total power of a laser by adding optics
of any sort.

HEY JERRY, what about the increase in power gained when using JAYROB'S G-1 lens ?

Jayrob's lenses are magic, don't question them. The convex surface reflects photons back in a parallel reflected beam right back into the diode facet. This creates huge power gains, as essentially there is a second gain channel for lasing.

Interesting note: there is a low resolution diffraction grating in most LCD backlights...

I have noticed CONSIDERABLE power gains when using either Jayrobs or LARRYDFW'S Hi-Power lenses in my lasers. rob

BShanahan14rulz i thought reflections into the diode facet are harmful to the die.

I'm sorry, I was being sarcastic. Thought phoenix was being sarcastic too. I should clarify that any gains from using a different lens are almost always due to the fact that the lens is more efficient than the lens that was used for the control measurement.
