Just got up and figured I'd check my PayPal account, and see if old Boblaser actually followed through, and guess what... The $722 was there! [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif]

It was around 485mW? According to your Laserbee? Average or peak?
How much is green and how much is IR? (do you have a IR-filter?)

After the refund: 300$ for a 485mW? Thats not bad at all.

RPL 400 cost $1,389.
Good quality? Yes.
Good costumer service? Yes.
Expensive? Yes!

I recommend buying the same laser directly from viasho.
Thats where optotronics get their RPL's from.
>300mW cost ~700$.
They often send out freaks.
And the customer service is great!
If you get a sub-optimal unit, simply ask politely for another one!

Cheers!

uhm i have talked with them -sorry jack what you recieve is what you get
warranty is $hit 3 months *they dont give you a powergraph just an estimate
on power to me paying an extra 200-300 for a killer a$$ warranty is better that playing the i hope it lasts more than 90 days game *:-/

also my first laser from RPL was a 260 average 291 traded it it for full value got a 375 average 388
viasho doesn't have a upgrade program and i believe they use both a 1.5 instead of a 2.5 nlight pump somtimes be carefull

Optotronics have better warranty and an upgrade program.
Am I willing to pay 700$ extra for this? No.

Warranty is 3 months. But hey, it half the price. You save 700$.
IF something goes wrong, Frank at viasho will repair it. For less than 700$.

When making the order, just tell him that you want the 2,5W N-light.
If you take the 2,0W N-light, its even cheaper!

Frank is such a nice guy.

Well I promise my next "big" laser purchase will be from one of the places you guys are recommending. I'll just wait and see how this thing lasts. Now, that my cost is more like $300, not over $1000, I'm feeling A LOT better. I think my next toy is another homemade from Spyder. He has informed me of a the possibility of a red laser with some insane burning potential. [smiley=evil.gif] Insane, like 1000mW average

Just a little update, I just tested my Boblaser again on the Laserbee, and it was holding steady at about 510mW for 20 seconds or so :-? Not bad for $300

John Lawson:
I have a viasho unit (the same Optotronics call "RPL&quot.
The physics laboratory in my university have a handful of lasers from viasho.
One of them was sent for repair. Excellent customer service!
We had to pay for the shipping to china, ofcourse.
Remember: if Optotronics cant fix the RPL, they send it to Viasho.

Yeah, its a difference of opinion
For me: 700$ is too much to pay for a longer warranty + upgrade option.
How does this upgrade program work? How much do you get from the old RPL you trade in?
I must say that sharing opinions with you, John Lawson, have been a pleasure 8-)

lowell:
Where are the beamshots and the Laserbee showing 500mW+?
Do you have a IR-filter? I want to know green/IR-ratio.
1000mW average? Dont say its 4 red diodes combined!

Have you tried a filter in front of the laser to see how much of that is IR?

Just a passing thought....If Bobs lasers were to advertise the laser as a 500mw and sell it for $300 I wonder how many he would sell......

A 400-450mW laser is always going to be worth more than $300. Just because it isn't optotronics, it still may be a good laser

The only reason I got a partial refund was because they sent me a broken one first, then took forever replacing it, then sent one back under spec, and I threw a fit. The process I had to go through to get a $300 laser isn't something I'd want to go through again.

Quick question on another topic. I have to get on a plane this afternoon to go visit family. I was trying to decide if I was going to bring my new laser. Anyone know the regulations on this? Can I bring it in my carry on? I wouldn't want to put it in checked luggage. If anyone knows anything, I'd appreciate the info.

Hi Lowell

i did the same mistake with Boblaser, will never buy there again. If you want a really good and " cheap " laser, then buy from CNI i have the 500 mw greenie from them. I told them that it should have a IR-Filter and must put out 500 mw after the IR-Filter. They told me that it will put out more then 500 mw. As the Laser arrived, i tested it and it peaked to 750 mw !! the average is at 650 mw. Will make a video soon that you can see it. I tried many companies which are "cheap" but at least the only one who give true Spec. was Susie from O-like and CNI, both of them you can trust.
