I had a thought a while back about mixing a simple tunnel scanning effect with TTL blanking from another source.
I made a simple tunnel scanner, sticking a mirror to a ultra fast motor I ripped out of a old VCR and connected it all up. Then I connected my 50mW green laser (to be used in my RGY project, not currently installed though) to the TTL output of my scanner and pointed it at the spinning mirror.
It actually gave out a quite interesting effect, obviously some of the blanking effects were not at the right speed for the motor but that also gave quite a nice effect giving out different shades of green. One even made a nice tunnel of single beams.
I will post a video later.
