i am about to get a thermal powermeter, hopefully.
but for you silicon-users (LP1), determining the wavelength would be helpful, i bet!
with my setup (40cm long) and a proper focussing lens for a small reading-point, you should be able to read to 2nm accurate. watch your optical power, which you collimate to under one mm on printed paper then!
(not to forget that you will put your eyes close to that spot to read it).
that should help for power-measure, since the wavelength changes from diode to diode slightly, changes with temperature, and changes on the advertising/sticker too!
