AH our DVD player ALMOST broke today. The disk spins around and makes a weird noise, but my parents decided it still works :( When it breaks, I'll have myself a free 5 mW red laser! I think. It's only a reader, so it should only be low powered right?

You know, you can get 5mW red laser diodes off eBay for pretty cheap, I've picked up three for a buck once. ;D

I don't have an eBay account and am too lazy to buy them off ebay ::)

Its easier for me to just wait for this DVD player to break LOL

Considering you need a housing with a lens to put the diode into, and the housing usually comes with a 5mW laser anyway, why bother?

I have a bunch of diodes (with driver) extracted intact from the DX modules. I'd be happy to send ya some for the cost of shipping... Just need a module to put them in, LOL.

Go to radio shack and buy a $5.00 <5mw laser pointer.... You can do this on your way home from any activity that takes place outside of the house... Now you dont have to wait! ;D
For a <5mw red, It's really cheaper than buying all of the parts to build your own.
