Morning! :) Nice Rich, but it's hard to tell the size of the host, any chance to put something in the pictures to use as comparison? Looking good though. Also think you missed my last post to you, where I mentioned I've got a project in mind for you, if your up for it? Remember awhile back I bought a gravity assist laser. Was thinking that needs a focus adapater. Was planning on sending you some pics of my idea when I get home. Just giving you a heads up, give you a call when I hit the house.:)

Good Morning,
Ok here is the comparison of the host and now the complete build with a PL450B/3 Element lens/ 1-14500 cell /nano drive =275mA.
Oh almost forgot to mention that with a G2 lens it will do 220mW's

Yes i remember the work you described sure thing an awesome focus adapter to compliment your laser buddy..

Rich:)

Do you think the 14500 battery can handle the 450 MM with a boost driver? Duty cycle of maybe 15 seconds. I have one of these taken down ready for a heatsink. Could you lift her skirt and show how you secure the heatsink in there?

I'm betting we had similar ideas. I was trying to get the focus adapter to incorporate the sliding focus thing on the flashlight. I'm still hung up on that part. The 22mm DTR v2 focus adapter slides right into the bezel ring. It would look so clean without the gap between the focus adapter and the heatsink. Also wouldn't need a spring in the module.

Hi D,
The Nano driver in this build is not sinked due to the low output of the diode, so there for it wont need to be sinked and stays stable. As for a 450 MM if the driver is set 1.8A or lower it will not need to be sinked either, and a 14500 cell would be depleted pretty fast but would remain with enough power to play for a while, The main sink should be of copper instead of Aluminum for the heat dispersion. And your duty cycle will be more than 15 seconds . For that skirt over the heat sink you described it would have to be turned down so much and would wind up very thin walled and would collapse in the lathe jaws if it were to be made from CU or AL. That part of the build would have to be made of stronger material like SS to be rigid enough. Once the sink is machined to fit the ID. of the bezel there not much room for the sleeve to be recessed.I don't think the focus option on this host will work or maybe I'm missing something.

Hey Rich, I really like these small pocket sized hosts like this one, and paired up with that single mode 450nm, sweet! :D
:gj:

I've just finished a Solarstorm S3 host project that's just about the same size as your little EDC here, I hope I'll get a chance to make a proper thread on it tomorrow.

Ok I understand the issue with that. I'm not sure what is a safe thickness to work with aluminum. Maybe have the focus adapter fit so it sleeves over the bezel ring from the crowned part down to the small ring groove of the bezel ring. The main thing is to hide the focus gap and use the flashlight focus ring with an laser focus adapter. I'm sure t can be done :yh:

Edit : not trying to thread jack. We can discuss in pm or email but I figure some members may find this discussion interesting or have some input. Let me know of I should just get this idea out of my head lol.

Hi D,
Hey I'm still picking at it ,i was just in the shop looking ay the host again and pondering about that. Its picking my brain now but i will still stab at it. It is a really cool concept and worth the figuring. I have four more coming but in some cool funky camo patterns.

Hi 10,
It's a Nano buck /Boost driver by Lazeerer, DTR sells them . They have three settings by bridging the resistors. When none are bridged you get 275mA, When 1 and2 resistors are bridged you get 500mA, and when all 3 resistors are bridged you get 1.1A. He shows how to bridge them on hi website under drivers.
