I've turned it up to 300ma to play with and it warms up fairly quickly... you can feel the heat building up on the outside within 10 seconds... I'd guess 30 seconds tops run time before it gets warm enough to worry...
I am now thinking about designing a bulkier heat sink part for it, but that would defeat the portable-ness
yeah if you look at the schematics, the negative diode pin connects to the same spot as the negative input. so if your diode/heat sink is grounded, you don't need a negative input.

since my rechargable batteries came in the mail the other day, I've been pointing at some more stars lately and have noticed it gets quite toasty after a while. so I timed it and figured it takes about 3 minutes to feel warmth on the outside (at 300ma) but when I pulled it apart the board was burning hot. I think the voltage regulator was doing this... is it bad to have it heated up to the point where it will almost burn skin?
I'm not sure of any way to fix the heat issue with the board (but it seems the heat sink keeps the diode cool for a few minutes)
