Cut basically the whole black part if you cant see the line in it, it doesnt matter as it wont affect anything else, just dig deep across where the blade is on these pictures and with a volt meter check to make sure that there is no polarity or ohms reading across those two pads for each the negative and positive side.

I have two questions. Has anyone measured the output power from their finished Mini Dorcy/Senket GB Sony diode laser (using Kenom's build technique)? And, what should the expected diode life be if powered by the Dorcy circuit? Thanks.

I've drawn a simple picture. The place you wanna cut is directly counter clockwise from each of the indicated places.

As far as output power, Your looking anywhere in the range of 100mw - 200mw depending on the condition of the diode. I've used several diodes from the group buy and each one is putting out a bit different. It does have a bit to do with how much you have abused the diode (heat from soldering, and dropping, or hammering) before completion.

The driver I believe is putting out somewhere in the neighborhood of 360ma. Now that was one test from one unit. Would be nice if others could test the current on thiers too. I don't have a multimeter yet that is capable of reading current.

So there ya have it. output power and current.

Well, I successfully built this, but it's not doing what i thought it would. It's really bright, but I think that it's not being focused properly. I can't get it to burn/melt anything after leaving it on for about 30 sec. The point of light it makes (I'm using some good goggles) is pretty disperse, but I assembled the diode into the module just as described in the guide. Anyone have any tips or ideas to help? At about 1 foot from a piece of paper, the dot is about 1 inch in diameter, and about 1/2 inch diameter when about 1 inch from the paper.

Mmm, I have an Aixiz module and it has a lense you can focus, have you tried that?

i'm stuck with the aixiz module. i'm not sure on how to remove the original 5mW diode from the 12mm brass. could someone please post a video of dissecting it?

If your using the Aixiz module you can focus the lens on the front of it to change the dot size. It sounds like to me it's set on infinity now, and if you twist the lens a few turns you will find that the dot will get much smaller at 3-6 inches.
Hope that helps

Completely unscrew the lens out of the module. Look down into the hole it came out of and you will see the Diode mounted inside. Grab a wooden dowel the same size as the hole and shove it in there. Few loving taps with a hammer and that thing should just pop right out making a place for your new diode.
Hope that helps.

make sure you remove the circuitry from the other side. If you do not have anything in the way then it's a matter of tapping very very hard. I started off with a hole punch. Ya know those metal things you use to punch a mark where to drill. Since we don't really care about saving the old diode (who wants 5mw?) destroy it and get it outta there. Remember it has to be from the glass side of the diode NOT the pins.

yea i removed the circuitry. is it possible to drill the diode out?

I wouldn't drill it, you may enlarge the hole and then your new one will not stay in place......
